Fight Class Video - Hook or Overhand Defense/Hook Counter

In this Fight class, we practiced defending a Hook or Overhand Punch (Level 2 techniques) and countering with a same side Hook Punch. We went over how to use three different defenses and how to choose which one to use based on the distance, speed, and delivery of your sparring partner's punch. Those three defenses were Covering and Extended defenses (Level 2) and 360 Degree Outside Defense (Level 1).

The beginning of this video demonstrates an example of this style of defense and counter being used. JJ throws an Overhand Punch at my head. I defend it with a 360 Degree Defense which allows me to control the inside position leaving the side of JJ's head open. I immediately counter with a quick hook punch with the same hand that I defended with.

Thank you to all the students who attended this Fight class! Please let me know if you want me to watch your sparring matches and give you feedback.

Fight Class Video - Neck/Bicep Tie-Up, Knee/Hook Punch Combination

In this Fight class we worked on the Neck and Bicep Tie-ups/Grips from the Level 3 curriculum and how to add a Knee Strike (Level 1) and Hook Punch (Level 2) combination off this tie-up and to disengage, as well as strategies on how to use this clinch on a larger, more aggressive sparring partner.

The beginning of this video on the left side shows an example of myself using this tie-up and combination against Teddy. Teddy takes an advanced step to tie-up my hands. I counter by grabbing his neck with my left hand and pushing his bicep back with my right hand. The bicep tie-up opens up his ribs for my right knee strike to land. When he drops his right elbow down after receiving the knee strike, it also drops his right hand down which I take advantage of by landing a short right hook punch behind his ear. Then I push him away before he has a chance to retaliate with his own strikes. This is a good strategy against someone who is aggressive and who you do not want to stay clinched with such as a stronger opponent.

Thank you to all the students who attended this Fight class! Please let me know if you want me to watch your sparring rounds and give you feedback on your performance.

New Video - Krav Maga - Getting Up: Transition Kick (Reach and Power)

Last night in our Level 1 Self Defense class, one of the techniques we covered was Getting Up: Transition Kick.

Here's a brand new video for our Krav Maga 'Student Section' that offers two tips on how to maximize power and one tip for maximizing reach with the Transition Kick. These two tips are often neglected by beginner level students

Fight Class Video (Fakes)

In this Fight class we went over how to use Fakes when fighting or sparring.

Fakes are a quick movement which is not what it appears to be, designed to trick an opponent. I showed how fakes make our opponent more predictable and how to use it to set-up our offense.

I showed examples of how to use the entire body such as the feet, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, hands, head, and eyes to fake our sparring partner.

I also taught how to counter your opponent's fakes by mixing up the type of defenses you use to make yourself unpredictable.

The beginning of this video shows an example of the use of fakes and the counter to them:

1. I throw a jab at JJ's face and he defends by using an inside defense.
2. Next I fake the jab and notice JJ starting his inside defense again.
3. Then I change levels by bending my knees and lower my body to fake the jab to the body. This causes JJ to drop his hands to defend the jab to the body which leaves his face open for my jab to land to his head.
4. Then I try another jab faking type of sequence. JJ wisely counters my fakes by mixing up his defense. Instead of just trying another inside defense, he changes up his defense by adding a retreat step to move out of range of my left fakes and punches.

Thank you to all the students who attended this Fight class. Please let me know if you want me to watch your sparring matches and give you feedback.

Outside Chop Strikes (Pivot Details) Video

Last night in our Level 1 Self Defense class, we went over Outside Chop Strikes.

Here's a new 'Student Section' video going over pivot details for the Outside Chop Strike. The pivot is the most difficult aspect for students to learn, especially if they are attempting this combative with the rear hand.

Switch Kicks - Fight Class

In this Fight class, we practiced Switch Kicks from the Level 5 (Brown Belt) curriculum.

At the beginning of class, we reviewed Defense against Low Round Kick (Using the Shin) and (Absorbing with Thigh), both Level 2 (Orange Belt) techniques.

Next all the students practiced Double Front Kicks, Double Round Kicks, and Round/Front Switch Kicks on the heavy bags.

Then we finished the technical part of class by using the Round/Front Switch Kick as a way to strike the groin when your sparring partner is defending the round kick by using the shin or absorbing with the thigh.

The beginning of this video shows an example of the Round/Front Switch Kick being used in live sparring. On the left side of the video, Teddy and I are sparring. I throw two regular round kicks at Teddy's legs and noticed each time he would pick up his leg to block with this shin. By defending this way, it opens up his groin making it vulnerable for a front kick. Seeing this, I throw a third round kick but add the front kick with the ball of foot to his groin in a switch kick fashion. By using the switch kick, he doesn't have time to defend the kick to his groin.

With the 2016 Rio Olympics currently going on, I would suggest watching any Taekwondo match. These Taekwondo fighters are the best in the world at throwing and landing switch kicks. They are not allowed to kick the groin like we do in Krav Maga, but watching them shows what world class switch kicks look like!

Thank you to everyone who attended this class! Please let me know if you want me to watch any of your sparring matches and give you feedback on your performance.

Switch Kick Video

Krav Maga Video - Switch Kicks (Reason and Training Tips).

This morning in our Fight class, we went over how to throw Switch Kicks (Level 5 technique) to set-up the Front Kick to the Groin (Level 1). The Round Kick/Front Kick Switch Kick combination is a great counter when your sparring partner uses Defense against Low Round Kick (Using the Shin) and Defense against Low Round Kick (Absorbing with Thigh)...both Level 2 techniques.

I uploaded this video to our Krav Maga YouTube channel about 3 years ago. Today is a good day to upload it to our Krav Maga Facebook page for all the students who attended the Fight class this morning.

This video covers the following:

1. Reasons why Switch Kicks are taught in Krav Maga.
2. How Switch Kicks compare to similar movements with boxing or punching.
3. Training and sparring tips for Switch Kicks

Calf Kick And Defense - Fight Class

In this Fight class we worked on how to round kick (Level 1 technique) the calf as well as modify it as a sweeping technique (Level 4 technique).

We worked on how to set-up the kick on both the inside and outside of the calf, as well as the front and back leg. We also worked on how to defend the calf kick using the top of the shin as a blocking surface (Level 2 technique).

The beginning of the video shows an example of me using the round kick to target the outside calf of Ed. I wait until Ed commits to throwing a jab. By throwing the jab, I know he will put weight on his front leg as well as blade his body exposing the outside of the calf. As soon as I defend his jab, I immediately throw the kick. Ed was also attempting to grab my round kick earlier in the round when I would target his thigh. By targeting his calf instead, the kick would be too low for him to grab.

The second example is of me defending against this kick on JJ. JJ attempts the same calf kick, but to the inside of the leg. When I see this, I get up on the ball of the foot, pivoting the top of my shin to block on his foot and ankle. The top of the shin is much harder and stronger than the small bones of the foot. Without shin guards on, the shin block will cause damage to the attacker's foot.

Thank you to all the students who attended this Fight class! Please let me know if you want me to watch your sparring matches and offer critiques.

Eye Strike - Fight Class

This past weekend, I tried to upload the latest sparring video from Fight class to our Facebook page. After completely uploading it, when it was time to 'publish' it, it would freeze.

However, I was able to successfully upload it to our YouTube channel over the weekend.

Video description:

In this Fight class, we went over the Eye Strike from the Level 1 (Yellow Belt) curriculum.

When using the Eye Strike in sparring, it is delivered similar to a "flick" jab in boxing.

We went over the basic Eye Strike, along with an advanced step, and a half step variation. Next we practiced faking the Straight Punch Low (Level 1 technique) to set-up the Eye Strike and faking the Eye Strike to set-up the Straight Punch Low. Finally, we worked on the concept of "broken rhythm" when using the technique as a fake.

The beginning of this video shows an example of me using the Eye Strike against George. I step into my Fighting Stance just out of range. Next I lean slightly forward and down with my torso. The forward lean maximizes my reach on the Eye Strike. The lean down makes George think the punch might be delivered to the body. Next I use a half step to get into range to land the Eye Strike and then quickly retreat back out of range before George has an opportunity to counterattack.

Thank you to everyone who attended this class! Please let me know if you need feedback on your sparring performance.

Basic Tackle Defense (Knee Clinch on the Side)

In this Fight class, we spent the first part of it practicing the Basic Tackle Defense (Knee Clinch on the Side) from the Level 1 (Yellow Belt) curriculum.

We first reviewed Slipping Punches (Level 2) against the Jab (Level 1). Then we used the Basic Tackle Defense as a counter if your opponent attempts to slip under your jab and clinch/tie up.

After we use the Basic Tackle Defense to stop the clinch/tie up attempt, we practiced a variety of counterattacks such as Knee Strikes and Elbows (Level 1), Uppercut and Hook Punches (Level 2), and the Forward Headbutt (Level 3).

The beginning of this videos shows an example of the Basic Tackle Defense being used in live sparring:

George and I are sparring in the background. I fake the jab a few times because I know George's tendency to want to slip it by moving his head to the side and land a jab of his own. I use the fake to set up the high Round Kick (Level 1) to his head. After the kick lands, George continues his head slip but decides to use it for a clinch attempt. I recognize this and place my left arm on the side of his neck and snap his head down with my left hand (Basic Tackle Defense). From this position I'm able to land a few hook punches to the ribs, a knee to the body, and finish with an uppercut punch to the face before disengaging.

Thank you to everyone who attended this class! Please let me know if want any input on your sparring performance.

Elbow #3 (Defensive Components)

This past weekend in our Self Defense classes we practiced defending against Both Wrists Grabbed, Held Behind the Back and Bearhug from Behind with Arms Free. Both are Level 2 (Orange Belt) techniques.

Both defenses include the Horizontal Elbow Strike Backward (Elbow #3), a Level 1 Combative.

The most neglected aspect of Elbow #3 is the defensive components to the strike. This video explains what the defensive components are. In addition, it shows how this correlates to the "Knockout Game" and how it protects you from various choke attempts. Finally, it teaches two variations of these defensive components for taller students who are striking a shorter target.

Level 1 students tend to leave the defensive component out when practicing on pads. Level 2 and above students tend to leave it out while performing self defense techniques.

I uploaded this video on our Krav Maga training center's YouTube channel about 2.5 years ago. I figured this would be a good time to upload it to our Facebook page as well. I tagged the students who attended this weekend's Self Defense classes.

Kimura Counter Guard Pass Into Arm Bar

This summer in Groundfighting class our students have requested Guard Passing techniques.

The last few weeks we have worked on passing the guard while preventing and countering the Kimura (Downward Shoulder Lock). We have also practiced how to apply the kimura from the bottom of half guard.

This morning in class we spent the bulk of the time practicing the Kimura Counter Guard Pass Into Arm Bar. This is a great technique to apply when the bottom person fails to secure the half guard with their legs properly while going for the kimura.

This video is from the Matt Hughes vs. George St. Pierre 1 fight from UFC 50. It shows an excellent example of this same technique being performed to finish the fight.

Thank you to everyone who attended Groundfighting class this morning! Please let me know if you have any questions on the video or technique.

solidarite Our Thoughts and Prayers Go Out to France

Below I read this as part of the weekly Krav Maga Worldwide licensee newsletter I received yesterday. I felt it was appropriate to share with everyone.

-Randall

---

As we reflect on the tragedy that unfolded in Nice during this year's Bastille Day celebrations, we are reminded of why we do what we do as Krav Maga practitioners. We recognize that there are those in our world who wish to do the innocent harm, and we have taken our safety, and the safety of our communities into our own hands. We spend hours every week trying to prepare ourselves for the worst--choke defenses, knife defenses, gun take-aways. We spend so much time preparing for the worst, it is difficult for us to accept that we will never be 100% safe and prepared. Being confronted with this truth is uncomfortable--but it is why we come back to train day after day. While we will never achieve perfect safety, we can get better with every class.

The events that remind us of the chinks in our own armor, encourage us to keep training, to keep spreading Krav Maga, and to stand in solidarity with those who promote peace. Our thoughts, and sincere condolences go out to the nation of France which has stared down terrorism far too frequently, and still dares to say, "We will not be afraid."

"So that one may walk in peace." -Imi Lichtenfelt

Hook Punch/Round Kick Combination

In this Fight class, we practiced the lead Hook Punch (Level 2 technique) into a Round Kick (Level 1 technique) combination.

In this combination the hook punch sets-up the round kick, regardless of whether the hook lands or is blocked.

The beginning of this video shows two examples of me using this combination on JJ.

The first example shows how I leap in with the hook which forces JJ to put weight on his left leg so he cannot pick it up to check the round kick. JJ does a good job using the Defense against Low Round Kick - Absorbing with Thigh (Level 2) to minimize the damage from the kick.

The second video shows the same combination but the hook pushes his head to the side and into the round kick. I throw the Straight Punch or Jab (Level 1). JJ ducks under the jab and counters with an Overhand Punch (Level 2). I defend against his overhand punch by leaning back and catching the punch with my right hand and then countering with a left hook around his punch towards his head. When he backs up due to the hook, he is at the proper distance to land my round kick to his head.

Each example uses a Straight Punch - Cross (Level 1) to "hide" the round kick. Whether the cross lands or not isn't important. It "blinds" the opponent so they can't see the round kick as well. It also can be used to judge distance like in the second example. It can also be used to push off the opponent to create more space to land the round kick such as the first example.

In addition, the cross makes it more difficult for the opponent to land a counter punch of their own, especially when you lean away from the opponent while throwing the round kick (first example).

Thank you to everyone who attended today's class! Please let me know if you need feedback on your sparring performance.

Christopher and Yasmina Couples Training in Krav Maga Together

Thank you to our Level 2 (Yellow Belt) students Chris and Yasmina for giving us this review of our Krav Maga program:

"We are very lucky and thankful to have found Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano Beach. As many others have already stated, this place is a true gem. Randall and Glenda are excellent instructors. Very patient, attention to detail, can relate any technique to something you’re familiar with, and always ready to answer any questions you may have. They instantly boost your confidence when you execute a technique and quickly correct your misalignment when something needs improvement. We learn a lot from every class. You feel exhausted and most importantly, proud of yourself, after every lesson. You also feel more confident knowing that you can defend yourself in a worst case scenario. We highly recommend Randall and Glenda, teachers like them are exceptional and rare. Going to this school is one of the best decisions we ever made."

Bob And Weave

In this Fight class, we practiced the Bob and Weave (Level 2 - Orange Belt curriculum) against hook punches.

We went over four basic strategies for using the Bob and Weave:

1. Against taller opponents.
2. Covering your center line to bait the opponent into throwing a hook punch towards the side of your head.
3. Against opponents hitting too hard or loading up too much on their hook punch.
4. Against opponents throwing hook punches from too far out.

The beginning of this video shows an example of me using the Bob and Weave against Mack. It shows how to use strategies #1 and 2 listed above to make the Bob and Weave technique work.

As always, students can contact me for feedback on their sparring performance.

Inside Defense/Slipping Punch To Taking The Back Counter

In this Fight class we went over how to use an inside defense and/or slipping punches against an aggressive opponent and then take their back similar to a duck under in wrestling.

Once you take the back, you have many options for throws, takedowns, sweeps, and strikes. This class we just went over how to hook punch your opponent's body and face after you take the back.

The beginning of this video provides an example of me doing this same technique during live sparring (thanks Monica!)

Thank you both for delivering an excellent training one-on-one program for my 40 hours of training.

I started my Krav training in 2002 and had to stop after achieving Orange Level.

I wanted to refresh my Krav skills and learn more – you met expectations.

I arrived from the Northern Virginia on April 22nd, started on Thursday April 21st (my first 8 hour session) and completed my last session on Tuesday April 26th. My expectations and goals were met. I renewed my skills, learned new techniques, had my knowledge and ability to apply what I was taught tested, and increased my confidence to use the skills you taught.

I did my research before selecting your Training Center. I checked at least 15 other Krav training schools via the web, e-mail inquiries, and calls. My criteria was: 1) A Krav Maga WorldWide approved training school, 2) An experienced trainer with proven Krav training credentials, 3) Proof that the instructor was committed to student success, 4) Willing to provide one-on-one training. Your Training Center was the clear best choice for me.

Every hour of each training session was focused, intense, and precise in application of each Krav technique.

Glenda was the best training partner I have worked with. Having a training partner that was experienced and committed was critical to my ability to focus on Randall’s training and achieve results.

I recommend the Krav Maga WorldWide Training Center."

Clinch Set-Ups for Knee Strikes

Today in Fight class we worked on how to tie-up or clinch our opponent to set-up knee strikes to the body, legs, and groin.

We went over how to take your head off the center line, close the gap, and then use an underhook or neck (collar) tie to control the opponent with our lead hand. With the rear hand we used a variety of tie-ups such as underhook, overhook, elbow, forearm hook, and wrist to create openings to land the knee strike.

Between 18:00 and 21:00 of this sparring video, you will see Teddy and myself using this same clinch work during the round to land knee strikes (as well as other strikes).

Thank you to everyone who attended Fight class this morning. As always, let me know if you need any feedback on your sparring performance.

Tony Thompson Guest Student Flies In For Private Training

Today, Glenda and I finished private instruction for our guest student Tony Thompson from Virginia.

Tony was already a Level 3 Krav Maga Worldwide student through another KMW affiliate. He also has trained in other defensive tactics systems and served in both the US Air Force and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He spent about a week with us and received 40 hours of private lessons.

We reviewed all the Level 1-3 techniques for him. I gave him a lot of pointers for all his techniques. Also, we updated him on newer techniques that were not in the curriculum when he tested years ago.

Tony did a lot of research before deciding who he wanted to learn from in order to update his Krav Maga training. Based on our program's reputation, my martial arts credentials, and the "detailed and precise" instruction I provide on our training center's YouTube channel videos, he chose us to train under.

It was a privilege to work with Tony! He's 71 years old but in terrific shape and a hard worker (so no excuses not to train for the rest of us!). He's an even nicer person!

Check out Tony's company at this website: www.bii-va.com

Thanks Tony!

Low Round Kicks

Today in Fight class we went over how to attack the legs with low Round Kicks:

1. When to attack with inside vs. outside low kicks depending on your opponent's stance.
2. Creating angles for inside and outside low kicks.
3. Chopping down on the front of the opponent's thigh.
4. How to set up low kicks against the opponent's front and back legs.
5. Kicking both thighs with one round kick.

As always, let me know if you need feedback on your sparring performance.

Thanks for attending class!

Eye Strike - Mistakes To Avoid

Last Saturday in Fight class and yesterday in our Level 1 Self Defense class, we went over the Eye Strike.

In the Fight class, we spent more time on the set-ups for landing this strike. In our Self Defense class we focused more on the fundamentals to this technique.

I'm a big fan of the Eye Strike because it works on larger/stronger attackers and is the longest range/yet quickest hand strike you can learn. It's also a great set-up for other combatives that you can land.

I uploaded this video to our YouTube channel about 2.5 years ago. I figured now would be a good time to upload it to our Facebook page. It covers the most common mistakes to avoid while performing this strike.

Video description:

A very neglected, but very effective Krav Maga combative is the Eye Strike. This video addresses common mistakes to avoid. It shows all the details to prevent injuring the fingers when landing this strike. Many tips are presented to maximize the accuracy, reach, and speed of this technique. It shows you how to safely use the Eye Strike in live sparring in order to get good at it on a resisting opponent.

I hope the video helps you all out with your training.

Eye Strike Set-Ups and Variations

Today in Fight class we went over how to set-up the Eye Strike.

I'm a big fan of the Eye Strike. First, it's the longest range hand strike you can throw because it has the most reach and requires little follow through to cause damage. Second, even if your opponent is much larger than you, the Eye Strike will still be effective/cause damage if it lands. Third, if you land the Eye Strike or flick style jab consistently, it set-ups up all the other punches and kicks that you can throw.

We covered the following Eye Strike variations and set-ups.

1. Advance step.
2. Half advance step or jab step.
3. Double advance step.
4. Low guard starting position.
5. Faking the low body shot.

I noticed everyone in class landing the Eye Strike during rounds of sparring and using these set-ups. Outstanding! Good job everyone!

As always, contact me if you want some feedback and suggestions on your sparring.

Carolina Ortiz Hesitant To Start Self Defense Training?...
Come Watch A Class To See If It's Right For You!

Thank you to our student Carolina for giving us our latest review of both our Krav Maga and Kickboxing programs:

"I have been training with Glenda and Randall in Krav Maga and Kickboxing for a couple of months.

I had no firsthand knowledge of Krav Maga prior to this and wasn't sure if it was for me but after Glenda explained everything and I watched the first class I was happy to see how practical and useful self defense can be and I was more that ready to start.

Randall is extremely knowledgeable and skilled. He taught us specific techniques in a way that they are easy to understand.

They are both very patient and helpful to me as well as everybody else in the class.

What I like the most is that it's not just another class in a gym, I feel like I have my very own instructors who are always willing to answer all my questions and to demonstrate all the techniques as many times as I need. They correct me when I need to be corrected and support and encourage me when I succeed.

I'm very happy that I found you both and I'm very motivated to keep learning and to keep getting better each day.

I highly recommend Krav Maga at Pompano where you will learn practical and effective self defense skills in a fun and safe class, plus it's a great workout!

Thanks to both of you!"

Low Round Kick Defense Using the Shin (Calf Kick Defense Variation)

The last few weeks in Fight class, when I've sparred my students, I've been hitting them with a lot of round kicks to the calf. I noticed all my students had trouble defending it until I explained how to.

If I've tagged you this video, it means I've kicked you in the calf at least once in Fight class over the last few weeks.

This video explains the defense against the round kick to the calf. I uploaded it to our YouTube channel about almost two years ago but felt this was a good time to share it on our Facebook page.

Video description:

This video explains why both beginner and advance fighters often will target your calf when they throw low round kicks. Then it shows you how to modify your defense to address this problem.

Rear Uppercut/Lead Hook/Cross Punch Combination

Today in Fight class, we went over how to set-up the Rear Uppercut/Lead Hook/Cross punch combination.

This is a required Level 2 (Orange Belt) punch combination. It's a very strong combination because each strike is a "power" punch designed to create damage. Also, each punch set-ups the next punch. The uppercut lifts the opponent's head/chin up for the hook. The hook punch creates space and the angle for the cross. The cross creates space for a round kick finish (especially if the opponent is retreating during the combination) to either leg, groin, body, or head.

We went over the following set-ups for this combination:

1. When the attacker's head is lower than yours, that's the best time to throw the uppercut.
2. How to properly close the distance or gap to get near enough and create an angle in order to safely throw the uppercut (throwing uppercuts from distance makes you vulnerable to a counter punch).
3. Using the neck or collar tie-up to force the attacker's head down to set-up your uppercut.
4. Throwing this combination after you attempt a clinch or takedown that your opponent defends with their forearm against your neck.
5. How to throw this combination after you defend your attacker's takedown or clinch attempt (Basic Tackle Defense - Knee Clinch on the Side from Level 1 curriculum).

It was nice to see students attempting this combination in this sparring video. Nice work everybody!

As always, contact me if you need any advice or feedback on your sparring.

Side Kick - Tips to Improve Balance

Today in our Self Defense class, one of the defenses we worked on was against 2 Attackers - Each Pulling Defender's Arms to the Side. One of the most important combatives used to defend against this situation is the Side Kick. A lot of students have trouble with their balance while performing the Side Kick.

The previous two weeks in our Fight class, we went over how to set-up the Defensive Back Kick with a Spin. Students also have trouble with their balance while performing this technique. Many of the reasons for the lack of balance are the same for both Side Kicks and Back Kicks.

I posted this video on our YouTube channel almost three years ago. I thought today would be a good day to post it on our Facebook page as well. This video shows a few tips to help the student's balance while performing the side kick.

Isiah D. Not All Krav Maga Programs Are The Same

Almost every day a potential student will contact us for information about our Krav Maga program.

We receive information requests mostly from Broward, Palm Beach, and Dade County residents. But we also get requests from people all over the country, and even the world... especially for private lessons.

A common question is "Do you have another location closer to where I live? If not, can you recommend another Krav Maga program?"

The answer is almost always "no" to both questions. We will never recommend another instructor or location who we haven't trained with personally.

However, we always suggest to everyone, including those who visit our Krav Maga location, to visit several Krav Maga (and other martial arts) programs in the area. Watch a class and ask the instructor questions (such as their training background/qualifications) to get a feel for the program. After you visit a few locations, you will have a better idea of which program is best for you.

Just because we all teach Krav Maga, doesn't mean we have the same curriculum, class structure, teaching methods, type of classes, instructor qualifications, and so on. All Krav Maga programs are NOT THE SAME!

Thank you to our student Isiah for giving us a review of our Krav Maga program. He has trained at several Krav Maga locations and understands that there is a difference:

"Randall and Glenda I would first like to express my gratitude towards you both. Since I've become a part of the Krav Maga family, my knowledge and understanding of self defense has grown; thanks to the training and your wealth of experience, care, and knowledge thereof.

Prior to discovering Koch Martial Arts, I wanted to be trained by the best. I found many facilities to offer Krav Maga, but could not substantiate what was being offered. After watching several videos online, in which Randall and Glenda demonstrated different self-defense techniques, my interest piqued. I met with Glenda and Randall shortly after, watched what class was really about and became a part of the Koch Martial Arts family.

Training has been amazing. The meticulousness of Randall and Glenda, the sheer care for your well being, the excellent training provided in a great atmosphere, are all things things I find to contribute to my stellar experience. I am more confident in my abilities!

Thanks"

Setting Up the Defensive Back or Side Kick with a Spin, Part 2

Today in Fight class, we went over more details and set-ups for the Defensive Back/Side Kick with a Spin.

We started by reviewing the basic technique and set-ups we covered in last week's Fight class. Then we expanded upon it by going over how to deliver this kick with both the front and back leg. Next, we addressed which leg to kick with based on which foot your partner is leading with in their fighting stance. Next we showed how to use the kick when you have your sparring partner pressed up against the wall, as well as how to counter when they try to side step or circle off the wall.

Students can always contact me for pointers or feedback on their sparring performance.

Happy Easter everyone!

Setting Up the Defensive Back or Side Kick with a Spin

Today in Fight class, we worked on how to set-up the Defensive Back or Side Kick with a Spin.

Most students have trouble landing this kick consistently during sparring. We covered several variations to land the kick more often such as...

1. How to adjust the set-up step of the kick when the opponent is too near or far away.
2. How to lean the torso away from the opponent during the kick to increase reach, power, and prevent the opponent from striking the back of our head while performing the kick.
3. Kicking foot position adjustments based on the height or location of the kick.
4. Using the jab punch to set-up this kick to the groin or body.

Next week in Fight class, we will continue working on this kick by going over additional variations and set-ups.

As always, students should use this video to monitor their sparring progress. Feel free to contact me if you want feedback on your sparring performance.

Barbara Myrick Whether You Are Big or Small, Male or Female, Young or Old, You Can Use Krav Maga To Protector Yourself

Thank you to Barbara Myrick for giving us this review of our Krav Maga program:

"I originally started looking for a Krav Maga training center for my son who wanted to train when he got out of the Marine Corp where he had earned his black belt. Because of my experiences the first 20 years of living in Florida I felt defeated as soon as he asked me to search out a school. I had trained in Martial Arts in my 20’s in upstate NY. I loved the school and my Sensei treated us with respect. He really cared about our individual growth and training.

When I moved down to Florida I was extremely disappointed with the quality and lack of integrity of the schools I had looked into. It was one sales pitch after another, and they couldn’t remember your name once you signed up. They were McDoJo’s, each month they wanted additional money to test and get a new belt, 'because you were so ready after that short time to move up.'

On top of that I knew my son’s standards were going to be high, I couldn’t get why he was so interested in more training? I found Koch Martial Arts first try and sat in on a class ; now I understood why he would want to train in Krav Maga.

I found Koch Martial Arts first try. I Googled Krav Maga Training in Pompano Beach called the school, Glenda responded with information and let me know I could come watch a class. (Then the dreaded part of fending off the sales pitch) Glenda sat with me and answered my questions I really enjoyed talking to her she is very personable but, I wanted to remember how Randall went from 0-60 with a defensive technique in one class. Randall and Glenda’s method of teaching is to the point, right on, explains each detail even of how it could go wrong and how to recover.

I was exceptionally bored with my workout routine at this point in my life. I was 55 and wanted something to do serious battle with the bulge. It never entered my mind to train in Martial Arts (I use that term loosely, Krav Maga is Martial) again mainly because of the cost and the thought of being invisible was nauseating. I was never pressured. No sales pitch there. I couldn’t sign fast enough.

The orientation classes were very helpful to help me switch up and out of my old style and stances, increased my endurance and flexibility. The orientation classes allowed me to learn Krav techniques so that when I took my actual class I would mostly focus on the defense. I looked forward to going to class because of the Instructors, the other students and I love that Krav gets to the point. It is street worthy. After each class I came away with another defense technique and in between classes I watched the videos. There are fight classes, stand up & ground fighting to really put into practice what you are learning. I have never felt uncomfortable because I didn’t know something. i.e. I decided it was time to try a fight class; I hadn’t sparred in many years. Randall showed me what I needed to know to block kicks with Krav Maga techniques. I was off and running. (almost, the classes kick your behind endurance wise but, increase you determination).

For those of you male and female who are no longer 30 or 40 or in the best of shape there is no reason to be discouraged and every reason to start taking classes. You will never ever be bored, you will get strong, increase your flexibility and endurance. There are some fierce (gentle) people that take classes and they are more grown-up (?) mature than me. My point, whatever your age or level of fitness take Krav Maga.

I would often hear newer students saying, 'that it was the best thing they ever did for themselves and their only regret was that they didn’t start sooner.'

Oh! My son? I think I can speak for him and say that Krav Maga Worldwide has exceeded his expectations."

Level 1 Workshop

When: Friday, April 15, 2016
Time: 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Cost: $30

This workshop will cover ALL the Combatives, Self Defense, and Groundwork required to graduate Level 1 (Yellow Belt) of the Krav Maga Worldwide curriculum.

The techniques will be covered at a much faster pace compared to our regular Level 1 classes. Due to the faster pace, this workshop is best for the student who has trained at least a couple of months.

This workshop is excellent for the Level 1 student who wants to "fast track" their training.

This workshop is also good for the Level 2 or above student who wants to get a good refresher in all the basics. Remember, all Krav Maga tests are "cummulative". You must be able to perform all your lower level techniques, as well as your current level techniques for each testing.

For those students who plan on taking their Level 1 test on April 30 (see above), it is highly recommended they attend this workshop to fine-tune their techniques, as well as get instructor approval to participate in the testing.

Using a "Checking" Hand for Defense While Punching

Today in Fight class we worked on using a "checking" hand for defense while throwing a jab or other punch.

Anytime we throw a punch we are vulnerable to a counter punch from our opponent. While your punch is being thrown, it's one less hand you can use to defend with. Using a checking hand means using the non-punching hand in a way to defend the counter punch.

We practiced throwing jabs while simultaneously defending a variety of counter strikes from our opponent. We went over how to check counter strikes such as jabs, crosses, hooks, overhands, body punches, body kicks, and low kicks.

As always, students can watch the video to monitor their progress. Please contact me if you need any suggestions or feedback.

Setting Up The Lead Hook Punch

Today in Fight class we worked on how to set-up the lead Hook Punch.

The Hook Punch is one of the most powerful punches in boxing. This punch is responsible for many knockouts in this sport. However, I noticed my students weren't throwing this punch consistently in sparring. It's harder to land than the jab because you need to get closer to your opponent. So the key is the set-ups for the punch.

We worked on how to use the jab in a variety of ways to set-up the Hook Punch. Also, how the Hook Punch to the head can set up the Liver Shot to the body... and vice-versa.

Accidentally, two rounds of sparring weren't recorded. I'm sorry about that!

As always, students can use the video to see how they're progressing with their fighting skills and can contact me if they want suggestions or feedback.

Underhooks/Overhooks Taught in Fight Class

Today in Fight class, we practiced using underhooks and overhooks to prevent our sparring partner from keeping us pinned to a wall and using these tie-ups to reverse the position. We also covered how to use our underhook to set-up an inward angle knee strike to the ribs and how to prevent our partner from landing clean knee strikes of their own from the over/under clinch.

I noticed good improvement in everyone's clinch work while sparring! Good job everyone!

As always, feel free to contact me if you need any feedback on your sparring.

Krav Maga Video - Gun from Behind: Touching (Live Side Control Details)

This video is for everyone who participated in our "Defending Against the Most Common Gun Threat" Workshop last Friday.

I uploaded this video on our YouTube channel about two years ago. It covers the most common mistake that is made while performing the defense again Gun Threat from Behind (Touching) on the Live Side. I noticed this same mistake being made frequently during the workshop.

Video description:

There's four principles to all Krav Maga gun defenses: redirect, control, counterattack, disarm. The principle students have the most trouble with when learning the Defense against Gun from Behind (Touching) is control.

This video explains in detail all the key points to controlling the gun properly. These details include wrist, hand, shoulder, and elbow positioning, as well as keeping your attacker at your 12 o'clock.

This video also shows you all the potential problems that can come up if you fail to use these details properly while controlling the gun.

Enjoy!

Groin Kick Set-Ups Taught in Fight Class Today

Today in Fight class we went over set-ups for landing kicks to the groin.

We discussed the differences between striking with the shin vs. hitting with the ball of the foot.. as well as when and why. We practiced footwork drills to create angles for front kicks to the groin. If the angle is not there because your partner is turned more side ways in their stance, how to use round kicks and twist kicks to still strike the groin. Next we worked on using the round kick to the thigh to set-up other kicks to the groin. Next drill was cutting off the room to put our sparring partner's back on the wall. When the partner tries to circle off the wall, this is a great set-up for the groin kick. Finally, we worked on how to set-up a groin kick from the Muay Thai neck clinch by buckling the knee out to open up the center line.

As always... student should use these sparring videos to monitor their progress. Feel free to contact me if you want some feedback on your sparring.

Most Common Gun Threat Defense Workshop Pictures from the Most Common Gun Threat Defense Workshop

The most common gun threat is the Handgun from Behind. This threat is commonly used in robberies, kidnappings, and hostage situations.

In this workshop, we taught all the details on how to successfully survive this handgun threat if you are unable to negotiate your way out of the situation.

We had 38 people sign-up.... great turnout! Unfortunately, not everyone was able to make it due to illness or other circumstances.

Due to the large turnout, Glenda needed to assist me with this workshop to insure everyone received enough help. She wasn't able to take as many pictures as she normally does for workshops. Sorry!

Thank you to everyone who attended! Do me a favor and leave a comment and let me know what you thought about the workshop.

Mack Mayhue Latest Review of Our Krav Maga Program

Thank you to Mack Mayhue for the latest review of our Krav Maga program.

Despite Mack working up to 90 hours a week as an engineer, he was very good about still attending Krav Maga class. This type of discipline and dedication is rare and is to be admired!

Mack recently moved out of the area and relocated for his work. Good luck Mack... we will miss you!

Here's his review:

"Randall-Glenda

I would like to start off by saying thank you to you both, often in my line of work it is hard to feel "settled" from the constant relocation, it is also very challenging when searching for training opportunities and instruction. Having just begun my study into Krav Maga and moving to south Florida I was facing this dilemma once again. From the beginning it was the attention to detail and passion for teaching that stood out and will stick with me. I am grateful for the opportunity to have trained with such a focused and committed group of men and women, from all of the students to the instructors. It was because of this that my skills and abilities have grown in the area of Krav Maga. The team approach and consistent strive to help one another grow and improve will be surely missed. I hope to be able to train with you all again in the future.

To anyone looking into Krav Maga training - if you are looking for a " belt mill " that you can just show up and move through the ranks - this is NOT the place, but if you are looking for a group of people dedicated to helping you develop and hone your skills in the area of practical real world self defense, if you want the physical fitness and self confidence that comes from working hard and trusting in your abilities , if quality is more important than quantity and if you are looking for a dedicated team atmosphere led by proficient and professional instructors then you've found the right place.

Stay focused & train hard!!!!

Respectfully,"

This video comes from the Krav Maga DVD Line of Fire: Defending Against Handgun Threats.

I would suggest every person who is participating in the workshop to watch this video before attending. It explains the basic principles behind all Krav Maga gun defenses. It also addresses a lot of common questions and concerns that come up anytime we teach a workshop based on gun defenses.

I look forward to seeing everyone this Friday at the workshop!

Covering Defenses and Head/Bicep Tie-up Taught in Fight Class Today

This morning in Fight class, we went over Covering Defenses against punches to the head and how to tie-up or clinch with the Head/Collar and Bicep Tie combination.

In previous weeks, I've noticed the Covering Defenses and general tie-ups/clinch being underutilized during sparring.

When our sparring partner is too close, too fast, or throwing high volume combinations, Inside and Outside Defenses do not work as well. We can switch to the Covering Defenses to survive and then the Head/Bicep clinch combination to neutralize our sparring partner's ability to punch effectively. Then we showed two effective ways to safely disengage off this clinch.

Finally, we covered general strikes off the Head/Bicep Tie-Up such as Hook Punches, Uppercut Punches, Elbows, Knees, and Head Butts. We use these strikes in the clinch if we feel we have the strength, stamina, and/or technical advantage in this clinch.

This video shows the rounds of sparring at the end of class after we covered the technical portion of training described above. As always, students should use this video to monitor the progress of their fighting skills. Students can always contact me for feedback on their sparring performance.

Enjoy!

-Randall

Yana Hajtol More Teens Should Learn Self-Defense

Teens are in an age group with one of the highest risks of being a victim of bullying or assault.

We're very proud of one of our newest students Yana. She's taken the proactive step of learning how to protect herself. She's an intelligent young lady who's an even nicer person!

Thank you Yana for your review of our Krav Maga program!:

"I started training Krav Maga thanks to my dad. He was always talking about how great it is, so I started watching classes and indeed I really liked it. I could see how everyone in the class were giving the best of themselves, using all their energy even in the last few minutes, and it was very motivating to see how much effort they were putting into it.

Once I started training I understood why my dad was always saying all this good things about Krav Maga, and now I agree with him. Training Krav Maga here is really pleasant thanks to the coaches Randall and Glenda and to all the people we train with. All the movements we learn are very useful, especially for self-defense in any situation, and the activities in general are pretty enjoyable.

I personally think of Krav Maga as an exciting totally worth it experience that it actually gives you a lot of profits (physically, emotionally and a lot more), and honestly, the only thing you need to start is the motivation to try something new and Krav Maga will not disappoint you."

Forearm Hook Tie-Up Taught in Fight Class Today

Today in Fight Class we went over how to use the Forearm Hook to prevent your opponent from punching you, as well as using this tie-up to set-up your own strikes.

The Forearm Hook is in the Level 3 curriculum under Tie-Ups. It's one of many clinch positions that our Krav Maga curriculum has that is borrowed from wrestling.

The first 12 seconds of this video is myself sparring JJ last week and using some of the Forearm Hook tie-ups and strikes off of it. These are just a few examples of the techniques that were taught today in class.

I noticed the energy was lower during the rounds of sparring today but all the students were more "cerebral". Everyone was trying to improve weaknesses in their fight game and focusing more on improvement instead of just "winning" each sparring round. There is a time and place for hard sparring. But there is a lot more time that can be devoted to more technical based sparring, which I saw today. Good job to everyone who attended!

For those who attended: Use the video to help you monitor your progress. Feel free to contact me if you want some feedback on your sparring.

Thanks John for recording the sparring!

What's Your Biggest Regret?

How long have you been thinking about learning Krav Maga, how to protect yourself, or get in better shape?

Have you been thinking about it for weeks, months, or even years? Have you quit but have thought about coming back?

If you never get started (or resume your training), this might turn into a regret later on in your life.

"No one escapes this world without a regret or two. Time and time again, when we hear the final regrets of the dying, they’re not about wishing they’d made money or worked more hours. They’re almost always about wishing they had the self-confidence to pursue their dreams or the time to stay in touch with loved ones."

Whatever your dreams or goals are...take the first step towards pursuing them.

"Every day is a clean slate. Do the things you'll regret NOT doing."

gym membership Why Krav Maga Costs More Than the Typical Gym Membership

Thank you to Marcus Kowal for writing this excellent article and allowing others like us to share it!:

I'm going to step on some toes here but that's ok; I want to start off by saying that this is not meant for the many exceptions that I know and see. There's a ton of hard working people at these locations that are insanely fit and I'm proud to say I know many of them. However, I often get the comment "what, you charge over a hundred dollars per month? My 24-Hour fitness membership was only $39." Figured I'll tell you why we and any other legit martial arts/CrossFit/Yoga Studio/Dance/Specialized anything charges a lot more.

Why?

Because when you sign up at LA Fitness or 24-Hour Fitness or whatever, you get ACCESS to a gym. That's it. It's up to you to USE it (except if you take classes of course).

Because if you have the worst form in the world, you will continue to have the worst form in the world, because you won't have a person there to tell you how to do things. Except if you're a hot girl. Then you will have 5 bros showing you proper technique without having to even request it - every time.

Because if you feel like giving 20% in the access gyms, you can give just 20%. Make it 15% - let's keep it real. No one is going to be there to call you out on your laziness.

Because if you go into this place and don't speak to someone, chances are you'll never speak to anyone. With us, you will make friends for life.

Because you can be on your cellphone and post selfies, whilst hashtagging "GymFlow" and "Gainz". If you step on our mat with a phone in your hand, we will kick you off it. We focus when we train.

Because I see people walking out of these places WITHOUT HAVING BROKEN A SWEAT! And don't give me the BS about "I don't sweat when I workout". Do you know why? Because you haven't worked out, that's why. Ever. You've been going to this place for 3 years and you haven't worked out - not a single time!

Because it is actually possible for you to have been going to this place regularly for 6 months and you haven't seen a positive transformation of your body.

Because you can go to these places for a year and feel like you haven't grown as a person.

So if you are not one of these self-motivated, hard-working, focused, self-driven, social individuals that have taken the time to study their craft and have gotten themselves or are getting themselves into shape, your access card to the fitness tools at this given location, is as useful as having a Tinder to just find friends.

That's why we don't charge $39.

Share if you know what I'm talking about.

Fight Class Sparring Video

This morning in Fight class, we went over several of the Level 2 and 3 defenses against Round Kicks.

This class included several beginners who had not learned how to defend against the Round Kick yet. This is the most commonly thrown kick in sparring sessions, so it was important to cover these defenses for the newer students.

The Round Kick defenses we covered in class included:
1. Defense against Low Round Kick (Using the Shin)
2. Defense against High Round Kick (Covering Defense to Head or Ribs)
3. Defense against High Round Kick (Fighting Stance - Two Contact Points)

The first two rounds of sparring were limited to Round Kicks only as an offensive weapon. This type of "isolated" sparring forced all the students to fine tune their Round Kick defenses.

The rest of the rounds included all punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and clinch work. The only thing not allowed were takedowns due to the lower experience level and lack of space for this Fight class.

To all the students who attended: Thanks for making class this morning! Use this video as feedback for your fighting skills. Feel free to send me a message if you want any constructive critiques from me.

-Randall

Teddy van Wingen It's Okay to Smile and Laugh While Training in Krav Maga

I want to thank our student Teddy van Wingen for giving us our latest review of our Krav Maga program.

I love having Teddy in our program because he always brings a big smile and laughter to ever class! His fun and positive attitude is contagious! He can pair up with anyone else in class and both he and his partner will have a positive training session.

Here's Teddy's review:

"My pursuit of Krav Maga started because I wanted to do something for myself. I wanted to grow as a person and learn practical self defense. It was important that the school I would choose taught both stand up and ground fighting. That the instructors really cared about their students success, and that they had a wealth of knowledge about self defense to share. I couldn't be happier that I chose Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano. Randall and Glenda have that wealth of knowledge. They care enough to make sure that as a student, you're going to be able to defend yourself in any situation. You're not just going to learn a curriculum to pass a belt test. You're going to get an education in fighting and self defense. As a result I find myself a healthier, happier and more confident person. I've enjoyed my time so much, and think so highly of Randall and Glenda that I brought my little sister to train at Krav Maga Worldwide as well. It's been incredible to see her grow as a young woman and a martial artist. Something I wouldn't trade for the world. I am thankful for becoming a part of the Krav Maga Worldwide family, and look forward to continuing my martial arts education."

JJ and Randall sparring drawing Sparring Fun

I was exchanging some messages with my Krav Maga student JJ, giving him pointers about our last sparring session on Saturday.

JJ sent me this message and picture he drew... which is his version of how the sparring session went (for some reason he always thinks I'm Batman):

"Thanks Randall! Tell me the truth though, you saw that overhand coming. I used to think my hands were at the very least quick-ish, is this not the case? Or maybe it's just that you're really fast. In fact, I swear I saw you eating a sandwich when we were sparring which is funny but also a bit humiliating. The attached image is how I remember it. In fact, if you slow down the video feed I'm fairly certain you'll see it..."

Fight/Sparring Class Video

Today in Fight Class, we went over how to grab our opponent's leg against a variety of kicks while using only one defense . We also added high percentage counter strikes off this defense. We finished the technical part of class by showing two counters to when your opponent grabs your leg while doing this defense.

An important Krav Maga principle: Be comprehensive enough to cover a wide variety of scenarios.

We followed this principle today but teaching only one technique, with slight modifications, that worked against Front, Side, Back, Round, Slap, Heel, Offensive Back and Spin Kicks.

Thank you for everyone who attended class today! Enjoy the video and use it as a learning tool. Thanks John for recording it!

I try to give all my students feedback during or after I spar them. Feel free to see me after any class or send me a message if you want more suggestions from me. Both Michele and JJ were smart and asked me for critiques on their sparring after class today!

Self Defense Class - Kicking Sparring Video

Last night in our Level 2-3 Self Defense Class, we worked on the required kicks for our rank level.

Everyone was told to train your required kicks at three different learning stage:
1. Learn the basic application of the kick on training pads.
2. Improve and fine tune the basic application of the kick.
3. Learn how to set-up and land the kick on a sparring partner.

Especially with the more advanced kicks in Level 2 and 3, many students can make them work on training pads but can't consistently do the same while performing live training with a sparring partner. So the last portion of class, everyone did light rounds of sparring with the primary goal being to integrate the kicks for their level as much as possible. They were allowed to do light open hand strikes to keep their partner "honest" about defending hand strikes, but to also use these hand strikes to set-up their kicks.

Everyone can land Round Kicks and Front Kicks in sparring. But what about the other kicks such as Side, Back, Switch, Heel, Slap, and Spin kicks? These kicks make a good "change up" from Front and Round Kicks in order to throw off your sparring partner. Also, even if you have little need to use these kicks as offensive weapons, it's good to have a sparring partner throw them on you so you can learn to recognize and defend against these more advance kicks. Especially, when you spar or fight with someone with an extensive Karate or Taekwondo background... they will use these kicks against you so it's important to know how to defend against them. Finally, some of the kicks such as Side and Back Kicks become much more useful when fighting against multiple attackers, which we did for the last round of sparring.

Here's the video of last night's sparring. As always, students should use these videos as feedback for their training.

Boca Jewish Center Women's Self Defense Class at the Boca Jewish Center

Last night, Glenda and I taught a Women's Self Defense Class at the Boca Jewish Center.

Glenda started the class by explaining a quick history of Krav Maga and some of the basic principles of the system.

Next she taught the ladies a Fighting Stance with Movement and a Front Kick to the Groin.

The group requested how to defend against knife threats. So I taught them how to defend against a Knife Threat from the Front, utilizing the Fighting Stance with Movement and Front Kick to the Groin that Glenda showed them.

We finished the class with defending a Knife Threat from Behind on the Throat - Hostage Situation.

Glenda and I both enjoyed teaching the class and all the ladies seem to have a good time as well!

-Randall

Lesli, the one who organized the class for the Boca Jewish Center, was nice enough to send us this email the next afternoon:

"Good morning, Glenda and Randall.
I want to thank you again so much for the great class last night. On top of being informative and useful, which I expected, it was fun. I've gotten so much enthusiastic response and expect to be hearing more positive comments in the next few days. Eli was rigth to so highly recommended you. Thanks again and all the best,
Lesli"

Fight Class Sparring Video

This morning in Fight class, we went over head movement defenses such as Slipping, Bobbing and Weaving, Leaning Back, and the Shoulder Roll.

Last week, I noticed all the students in Fight class had decent footwork but lacked good head movement. The lack of head movement accounted for too many punches landing to the head. We addressed that today by going over these upper body movements to help keep the head off the center line or out of range.

We finish each Fight class with rounds of sparring, which this video shows.

Good turn out this morning. We had a combination of beginner and intermediate level students attend. For three of the students it was their first Fight class and they did just fine!

Enjoy!

Defense against Headlock from Behind - Shoulder Position Details

Last night in our Level 1 Self Defense class, we went over the defense against Headlock from Behind (Bar Arm and Carotid Artery versions).

In the entire Level 1 Self Defense technique curriculum, the defense against Headlock from Behind is one of the most difficult to learn how to perform properly. It's both a common and dangerous attack, so we go over this defense frequently in our Level 1 Self Defense classes.

Beginner and intermediate students often have trouble making this defense work when it's "pressure tested" or done when their partner offers live resistance and refuses to let go of the headlock. The most difficult aspect for students to learn with this defense is how to use their shoulders properly in order to escape this headlock.

I posted this video a couple of years ago in the Student Section of our Krav Maga website and YouTube channel. It covers a lot of the fine details to using your shoulders properly in order to escape this headlock.

Simone Liebeneiner-Murphy Hard Work, Self-Discipline, and Being a Good Person is More Important Than Talent in our Krav Maga Program

Thank you very much to our student Simone for giving us a review of our Krav Maga training center.

Simone is not our most talented student... but before you think I just insulted her... let me continue...

About 1.5 years ago, I remember the first day Simone attended her first Level 1 Self Defense class with her sister Bettina. Our first warm-up drill was to review Inside Defenses against Straight Punches to the face. To be nice... I'll just say Simone's technique was a little "rough" and she needed a lot of help.

But this is why I mention this....

Let's fast forward to today. Simone is now a Level 3 student and an orange belt in Krav Maga. She's one of our hardest working students! She one of our best conditioned students, often attending 3 classes in a row on Tuesday or Thursday nights! She's one of our toughest female students in both our Self Defense classes, but also our Fight/Sparing and Groundfighting classes.

This just proves that talent helps but doesn't replace great self-discipline to keep making your classes and having an incredible work ethic when training!

Most important, Simone is a wonderful person! Everyone she partners with in any class enjoys training with her. I've never heard a negative thing about her from a fellow classmate. She works well with everyone... she's tough with the biggest male advance student... she's helpful to the brand new/small female beginner student. I know I can partner her up with anyone and the training will be just fine!

You are just awesome Simone!  ☺

Here is Simone's review of our Krav Maga and Kickboxing programs:

"I am very grateful that I found Krav Maga worldwide right here in Pompano Beach. I have been comming here for almost two years. when I first started to learn with Randall and Glenda I noted that the center is very clean and all the equipment is in good shape and well taken care of.
What made a big impact on me is that there are all kinds of people and You feel welcome no matter what age, shape, body type or gender you are.
Everybody was welcoming and friendly.
I started to learn some self defense and it is so rewarding and fun that I really wanted to continue to learn more.
The classes are exhilarating and attention is paid to all details so you train safe and very effective.
I also attend Glendas Kick Boxing Class and that is a workout like no other.
I have always been very active, but I don't remember ever being in this great shape and actually having fun getting there.
Thank you Randall and Glenda"

Pressure Testing Hair Grab Defenses and Palm Heel Striking - Angles

Last night in Level 2/3 Self Defense class we went over Palm Heel Striking - Angles and defending Hair Grabs with Pull - Impending Knee Strike (Front, Back, and Side).

We started the class by drilling the Palm Heel Striking - Angles on the focus mitts. Next we drilled the Hair Grab defenses.

This video shows us "pressure testing" all the techniques and defenses.

To pressure test the Hair Grab defenses, each student put on headgear and was instructed to try and lightly knee strike or uppercut their partners face while they attempted the defense. Also, they were allowed to randomly pull the defender in any direction.

We finished class with 3 rounds of light to moderate contact sparring using only Palm Heel Striking as an offensive technique.

Fight Class Sparring Video

Today in Fight class, we went over the Forward Leg Round Kick (with switch) from the Level 2 curriculum. We showed variations of this kick in order to adjust distancing (forward, backward, sideways), as well as how to use the jab to set-up this kick.

This video shows the end of class when everyone does rounds of sparring. It was nice to see all the students trying to integrate this kick in their sparring sessions. The only way you can truly get good at a technique is to test it out with live resistance.

Thank you to everyone who attended this morning's Fight class. Enjoy watching the video and use it as feedback on what you're doing well and what you can improve upon.

Hammerfist to the Side - Defensive Component Video

Yesterday in our Level 1 Self Defense class, we covered the defense against Choke from the Front with a Push.

One of the combatives (strikes) that is included in this defense is the Hammerfist to the Side.

What a lot of students don't realize or focus on is the defensive component to this combative.

The Hammerfist to the Side is not just an offensive weapon designed to cause damage to the attacker. It is also designed to protect the defender through the use of its arm positioning. After the student does the rotational defense to break the grip of the choke and then flow into the tie-up of the attacker's arm, it's common to miss the tie-up or not do it securely enough to prevent the attacker from doing a possible secondary attack, such as re-appling the choke or punching the defender. If this happens, it is vital to perform the Hammerfist to the Side properly to protect the defender, as well as strike the attacker simultaneously.

I posted this video in the Student Section of our website and YouTube channel about 2 year ago. It covers the details to the defensive component of the Hammerfist to the Side.

This component is often neglected by Level 1 students. Even our Level 2 and 3 students have to be reminded occasionally to perform it properly.

Krav Maga Sparring Video

Every Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon, we have our Fight class.

The usual structure of the class is approximately 40 minutes of drilling techniques/strategies and then finishing with about 20 minutes of sparring. If any student wants to get in extra rounds of sparring, they can do so after class.

Here's a video of myself doing light sparring with George and then JJ after class last week. I didn't even know we were being recorded. Thanks for the videos Laszlo!

Federação Sul Americana de Krav Maga Federação Sul Americana de Krav Maga

I'm currently at our Krav Maga training center cleaning and getting it ready for classes tomorrow morning. I just met a nice visitor named Andre.

He trains Krav Maga in Brazil. He's on vacation with his family here in Florida. He picked up a pair of Krav Maga Worldwide shorts for himself and a KMW shirt as a gift for his instructor.

Andre is a very nice guy! We had a chance to chat for a few minutes and his Krav Maga school is affiliated with the Federação Sul Americana de Krav Maga.

Check out their website by clicking this link:

I asked him how he found out about our Krav Maga training center. His instructor in Brazil knew of our place and recommended he visit.

Flying Knee Strike

This morning in Fight class we went over two versions of the flying knee strike and two set-ups for landing them.

They're a little "fancy" for Krav Maga standards but they are fun to learn and, if they land, they have a lot of knockout power.

Here's a video of Carlos Condit and Mike Winkeljohn going over the front kick to double knee strike combination that we covered in class:

Carlos will be fighting for the UFC welterweight championship next weekend. He's had a lot of success with flying knees in several of his MMA fights.

Fist Position For Straight Punches

Last night in our Level 1 Self Defense class, I explained why the fist positioning is important for the Straight Punch. In a real self defense situation, you won't be wearing hand wraps or gloves. The fist position is important in order to better protect your hands and wrists.

I posted this video over two years ago on our YouTube channel. This video offers advise on how to adjust your fist position on Straight Punches in order to prevent wrist injuries. In addition, it discusses how these adjustments also effect the power of the Straight Punch.

Ed Wan Review Of Our Krav Maga Program From A Personal Trainer

Thank you to our student Ed Wan for giving us our latest review of our Krav Maga training center!

Ed's previous martial arts background and his career as a personal trainer allows him to offer some unique insights to how we run our Krav Maga program:

"I had been looking to train in Krav Maga for quite some time and I am glad I found Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano. I have been training with Randall and Glenda for over a year and couldn't be happier. I have trained in various styles of martial arts over the years and have always found one thing lacking, scenario/reality based training. Other styles are too focused on traditional systems based on forms or are sports based, which does not do not translate well to real life situations. Fortunately, Krav Maga is founded on the basis of effective yet efficient techniques to diffuse a situation as quickly as possible, which is what we train in each class. Being a personal trainer I place a lot of stress on the important of technique and form, and that is one of the things I really like about training with Randall. He really places a lot of importance on the little nuances of each technique which can be the difference maker in proper execution of the technique. Randall is always very helful in answering any questions that arise or giving you helpful tips to improve your technique. The class atmosphere is great as well. Although we are training hard, it's a fun and friendly enviornment that is conducive to learning. Along the way I have meet some really nice people and have made friends with others. I really enjoy going to the classes and the seminars. Randall is a great teacher and you can tell he really has a passion for what he does. I know I am not the only one of my fellow classmates who looks forward to coming to class. Everyone is always excited to learn something new or refine techniques. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to learn how to effectively defend themselves. Both Randall and Glenda run a terrific school that I am glad to be a part of."

Combinations From Fight Class This Morning

In Fight class this morning, we went over how to set-up the hook/uppercut to the body - hook/uppercut to the head - finish with round kick combination.

Here's a good Mike Tyson knockouts highlight video:

At 1:10 of the video, he shows his classic right hook to the body to set-up the right uppercut to the head combination that we worked on in class.

Here's another great example of using the liver shot - hook to the head - round kick combination from Ernesto Hoost:

This video offers a little contrast to the Mike Tyson video. Same concepts but using the combo on the left side, using the punches more to set-up the low kick, boxing vs. kickboxing, taller fighter (Ernesto Hoost) vs. shorter fighter (Mike Tyson)...but all using the same type of set-ups and combinations.

What have you got out of your Krav Maga training that you're THANKFUL for? What Have You Got Out Of Your Krav Maga Training That You're Thankful For?

With Thanksgiving coming up, it's time to be thankful for the people and things we appreciate in life.

I would like to know what all our current and former Krav Maga students got out of their training with us that they're thankful for.

I'm thankful for my Krav Maga training because I learned practical self defense and fighting skills that 20+ years of Taekwondo training never taught me.

I'm even more thankful for all the wonderful people I have met and taught through Krav Maga.

Okay...your turn! Leave a comment on our Facebook page and let us know how your life has improved through Krav Maga training.

If you don't want to share but still feel you've benefited from Krav Maga, give us a "like".

Thank you everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!

Tom Schafer You Can't Make Weekday Evening Classes?... Then Attend Our Weekend Morning Classes!

One of the latest reviews of our Krav Maga program comes from our student Tom Schafer.

Due to his work schedule as a UPS driver, Tom trains exclusively in our weekend morning classes. He's one of the hardest workers in class and always puts for 100% effort.

Thanks Tom for the review!

"My name is Tom Schafer, i am a first year Krav Maga student, its been a great year learning and studying Krav Maga with Randall and Glenda. When I first search for a martial class, I look at everything from kung fu to aikido , and I Stumbled upon Krav Maga and unique way of self defense , and how it incorporates so many martial arts into one, so made the move and join Glenda and Randall classes ,from the minute i walk in , their was a sense of seriousness ,but good hearted people who not only ,welcome me with empty arms , but willing to help with questions if i had any,Randall and Glenda teach all the classes with a sense of patience and detailed expertise of the techniques of Krav Maga, they are upfront and honest of what each student needs to do , to accomplish the curriculum and moved on to the next step.for me the classes have been more than just classes, i leave each classes exhausted but fulfilled with a mental and physical strength that i have not felt for years, you gain confidence not of cockiness but a self assurance that you take anywhere you go, any situation you encounter, that's i how I feel now, and Glenda and Randall make sure they give you that, their there for any questions and answers you may need, both Randall and Glenda are humble folks but they knowtheir stuff, for those who are reading and thinking of joining Krav Maga classes this is the place , you won't be disappointed ,again thank you Randall and Glenda

Thanks"

Krav Maga Fight Program Great Job in Fight Class This Morning

I was very happy with everyone who attended Fight/Sparring class this morning.

We worked on how to tie-up the opponent's wrists when their hands are up. From there, we added how to set-up strikes (kicks, punches, elbows, knees, headbutts) off this tie-up based on distance (long, middle, close). Close range strikes (knees, elbows, headbutts) are the most neglected and under used techniques in sparring, especially for beginners. I was very pleased to see everyone flowing from kicks to punches to these close range strikes during rounds of sparring!

The other thing I noticed was the improvement in some of the students. The improvement from now compared to 6 months ago with some of the students who are attending Fight class consistently every week is dramatic!

Nice work to everyone who attended Fight class this morning (Josh, Saku, Tom, John, Ed, Monica, Christopher, Tibor, and Kim. Keep up the good work!

Knife Disarm Technique on Homeland

On the latest episode (season 5, episode 6) of Homeland, there's a knife fighting scene in which you'll see one of the characters use one of the same knife disarm techniques that I taught at the Knife Disarms Workshop/Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser on November 6.

I can't post the fight scene but here's a preview of the episode:

The knife fighting scene shows some important lessons:

1. You should always try to talk your way out of fight (especially when threatened with a weapon).
2. Don't ever turn your back to an attacker.
3. He could of, and should of, ran away. Running away is one the best techniques you can ever use!
4. In a knife fight, you will most likely get cut and injured.
5. Even if you survive a knife attack, you may end up severely injuring or killing the attacker and then will have to deal with the legal ramifications.

In summary, don't get in a knife fight (or any fight)! Only bad things will come from it!

Thank you to our student David Weiss, and his wife Betty, for telling me about the video!

-Randall

Monica Bondar Krav Maga Keeps You In Shape AND Teaches You Practical Skills

Thank you to our student Monica Bondar for giving us a nice review of our Krav Maga training center:

"I started Krav Maga a year ago at Krav Maga Worldwide Official Training Center - A Koch Martial Arts & Fitness School with Randall the instructor and Glenda the school manager and fitness instructor .

I had a very good impression from the first time. Quick call back, set up a day when I could go and watch a class to see what's all about.., in the mean time I asked all the questions I had and Glenda answer me and explained everything I wanted to know; she was great! Watching the class I saw all the students enjoying the workout and being very focused. The instructor, Randall, was showing and explaining every single move of each technic and the students were practicing after that over and over each technic under his supervision , watching each and every one of them's moves and correcting if needed... I was very impressed of Randall's professional skills, perfection to details, speed and intensity of his performance! After I watched that first one hour class, I knew I m in the right place! Great customer service; Highly skilled instructors; Great management; Very organized with all the necessary equipment and clean place; Great team with fit, anxious to learn and happy " students"!

Right there, I knew : KRAV MAGA is something that I am interested in and I really want to do and learn!

And I was right ! It was THE BEST decision I ever made! ( I could also swear - " it's addictive " ☺

I think I can say - I have a pretty strong athletic background ( details are insignificant), I 've been in many " gyms and dojos ", and I had plenty, if not too many instructors, couches, trainers,..but none of those experiences can even come close with my present experience in KRAV MAGA!

I was a " gym worm" as well , for many years before Krav.., and looking back to only thing that comes in my mind is " what a waiste of time and energy"! Why?? Because I have nothing left from it, nothing! Yes ,it keeps you in shape while you are engaged in it , if you do your best, but that's about it..

With Krav Maga at Krav Maga Worldwide- you could get to be in your best shape of your life, get a killing workout every single time, with the best instructors, get to notice some of your muscles you never knew exists, and learn all the self defense technics and combatives that can save your life one day! And the most important - you gain self confidence, you feel secure and fearless! And that is very important !!

After all, I can say that I feel very fortunate and happy that I found this place!!! Thank you!""

Workshop/Fundraiser details available at this link:

Upcoming Events

All the proceeds will be donated to the STOP CANCER / The Marni Fund.

What is the The Marni Fund

Since 2006, the Kaufman and Levine families and Krav Maga Worldwide, in partnership with STOP CANCER, have been funding ground-breaking women’s cancer research with a shared mission dedicated to developing improved treatments, new diagnostic procedures and the ultimate goal — a cure.

Created in memory of Marni Levine (1969–2006), The Marni Fund is currently supporting innovative cancer researchers at UCLA’s Jonsson, USC Norris and City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Centers.

The STOP CANCER Marni Levine Memorial Research Awards provide annual support in the amount of $50,000 for three years. The STOP CANCER Marni Levine Memorial Breast Cancer Seed Grants award $25,000 in one year for continued research in breast cancer.

About Marni Levine

Marni Levine, a 4th degree black belt in Krav Maga was the highest-ranking female instructor in the world. She was a wife, a wonderful mother, a valiant and true friend, and in addition to all that she was devoted to Krav Maga and worked tirelessly to make it grow. Krav Maga teaches civilians, soldiers and police officers the tactics system developed by the Israeli military. Marni, one of the founders of this multi-national organization, passed away on August 31, 2006, after a long and courageous fight against cancer.

Marni was a fighter who never believed in giving up and in her memory, her husband, two daughters, family and friends, and Krav Maga Worldwide have raised over $600,000. Because of the unique arrangement STOP CANCER has with the participating cancer centers, each research award given is matched with in-kind support, effectively doubling the value of each donation.

David and Nate A. Families that Train Together, Stay Together

"Families that TRAIN Together, STAY Together."

It's always nice to see family members train together at our Krav Maga center. Not only do they learn potentially life saving skills, but it also helps create a bond between the two.

Thank you to David A. and his son Nate for giving us the following reviews of our Krav Maga program:

"I visited Krav Maga Worldwide because my son wanted to learn Krav. Due to work schedule I did not think I would have the time for it but then I thought of using this opportunity to start an activity with my son. I was happy for him but I did not think this was for me.

Sitting at a computer desk all day for the last 15 years and not working out for about 22+ years, I did not think I could keep up with the class.

Since I started, I've lost over 13 pounds and my strength has significantly increased.

I enjoy every minute of it. The skills and professionalism of Randall and Glenda are impressive.

Krav will change your body and you will learn how to defend yourself without all the choreography moves you see in other disciplines. This is the real thing.

The conditioning class is the best I've seen in years, it is full of action, you work cardio and strength in a very professional way taught by Glenda."

Thanks"

"I've been going to Krav Maga Worldwide for a few months and every time I go I learn something new. If you are into a good workout or just wan to get fit and learn urban military grade defense, this is the place to go. The teachers, Randall and Glenda are always there to help you. The way they teach is straight to the point and step by step practice ensures that you get it down. My classmates are very nice and the more experienced ones are always happy to help you along with your training. I am proud to say I train at Krav Maga Worldwide with Randall and Glenda."

Thanks"

Jay Hajtoj Got Injured? You Can Still Learn Krav Maga!

We received another review of our Krav Maga program from our student Jay.

First, I want to thank Jay for taking the time to type up his review!

Second, Jay hurt his wrist a couple of months ago and couldn't train. During this time, Jay came in and watched classes on a regular basis. He's mentioned how much he's learned from watching all the different students train the techniques. This is a great example of what you SHOULD DO if you get injured! If you still want to learn when you're injured...YOU CAN! No excuses!

By the way Jay...it was good to have you back in class training for the first time this past weekend!

Third, thank you to Monica for recommending our Krav Maga program to Jay!

Here's Jay's review:

"Hi , my name is Jay and I am a student at Krav Maga Worldwide Training School.

I feel very lucky that I started this training and I am very thankful for this to my best friend who started Krav Maga about 6 months before me and that was all she talked about: what a great place it is, how useful this type of workout can be, how great and professional the instructors are, Randal and Glenda and how much she enjoys it.

Now, knowing my friend so well, how high her standards and expectations are in almost everything.., these compliments had at least ten times the value! So, I became very interested as well, I joined Krav Maga Worldwide and I can understand now why my best friend was saying all those good things! It truly is the best place!!"

Krav Maga Fitness Conditioning Kickboxing program Heavy Bags Are Up For Our Kickboxing/Fitness/Conditioning Classes

All the heavy bags are now up for our KICKBOXING/FITNESS/CONDITIONING classes!

There are now 12 Thai style heavy bags that are each approximately 100 lbs. and 6' in length. This size allows for unlimited striking combinations hitting any target from head to toe.

The bags are attached to a heavy duty/commercial grade rail system.

The heavy bags can slide out into 140 different locking positions. This will give us a high level of flexibility with the layout of the workout room and type of drills we can do in each class!

When the bags are not in use, they can slide back to the wall freeing up space for all our classes.

DO YOU WANT TO HIT ONE OF THESE BAGS AND GET A KILLER WORKOUT?...

... then come to one of our Kickboxing/Fitness/Conditioning classes! We currently offer three classes each week. Mondays from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m and Tuesdays/Thursdays from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Krav Maga - Self Defense - Fighting - Fitness Krav Maga Gets You In Shape AND Teaches You To Protect Yourself

Going to the gym will help you get in better shape. If you go to our Krav Maga classes, you will also get in better shape AND learn realistic self defense techniques that may save your life one day!

Thank you to our student Gina for sharing her experience with us! She now feels safer AND has had a weight loss of 70 pounds since starting Krav Maga!

"I first looked into Krav Maga classes about 5 years ago because I'd ballooned up and wanted a weight loss workout that would hold my interest. Krav got my attention because of working with a person's natural reactions in dangerous situations, and since I have a habit of living in rough neighborhoods I figured I could learn a valuable skill while I slim down - win-win!

I looked on the internet to see what was offered around me and was drawn to Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano in particular - I don't even remember why - but when I drove by to check the place out it was just too far from home. I took a couple months of Krav classes closer to me and was hooked - super workout, and yes it is based on the most common responses to an attack so it's easy to learn and would be easy to utilize if necessary. I started training with KMW when I moved to Pompano and was immediately IMPRESSED - the other classes I'd taken were good but not on the level of the instruction you'll find here. The first thing these guys do is gear the student up with protective equipment - safety first! Then every student is given a curriculum book to keep track of what coursework has been covered and be able to practice between lessons. The curriculum book is tremendously helpful and it's apparent these guys have planned out the lessons in a common sense progressive flow. Each student is given a private introductory class to cover the basics to have a foundation going into the first class. The teaching itself is excellent quality - asking questions is encouraged and these guys are all about small details that makes the difference between sloppy & send the thug away wimpering. They also encourage students to make up missed classes - they could pocket the money at a loss to the student, but they genuinely give a rat's ass about passing along knowledge that could save someone's life. Lastly, and probably most importantly because I'll bet this is the basis of their high qualities I've already mentioned, they've never struck me as trying to impress their students with their bad-assness - these guys aren't teaching because they're insecure & wanna boost their egos, and they aren't singling out macho type students - they want both fit & not so fit adults, male & female, in the prime of life or golden years to be able to avoid attacks, make it out of one if there's no other option, and live to tell about it & make it back to more classes!

My personal benefits have been 1) a weight loss of 70 pounds 2) to be able to walk around 3rd world country & South Florida dark alleys at night alone - not recommended, but I don't feel I have to be afraid & stuck behind locked doors 2) get a workout that even my 6 days at the gym plus running couldn't give me - Krav is the BEST for triceps - and I had a gorgeous model tell me I had the best hamstrings she'd ever seen - many many thanks, Glenda & Randall!!!! I'd give you more than two thumbs up if I had 'em!  ☺"

2015 is our five year anniversary for our Krav Maga training center in Pompano Beach, Florida.

As a thank you to all our current and former students, we taught two different workshops free of charge.

The first free event was the Krav Maga Level 1 Workshop on April 10.

The second free event was this Anti-Hostage Workshop on May 15.

This workshop taught how to defend yourself when an attacker uses the threat of an edged weapon (knife, box cutter, broken bottle, etc.) or a handgun to hold you as a hostage and prevent others from helping you.

Thank you to all the current and former students who attended the workshop!

Ashley F. College Students Should Learn Self-Defense

College students are at a higher risk to be a victim of assault compared to the general population.

We are proud of our student Ashley for taking the responsible steps to learn how to protect herself.

Thank you Ashley for sharing your experience with our Krav Maga program!

"As a teenager I was hanging out with the wrong crowd. One day I went to a party and a 212 pound girl attacked me. I had no clue how to defend myself, seeing as I weighed almost 100 pound less than her. After the incident, I decided to look up martial arts training on the Internet, and I found Krav Maga. They teach you how to react to real life situations. Taking part in the school was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have now been training with them for almost 3 years. It's nice to be able to go places and feel safe as a young women. Krav Maga has given me confidence to know that I'm able to protect myself. The learning environment is safe and the instructors are amazing."

Krav Maga Level 1 Workshop Krav Maga Level 1 Workshop Complete

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Level 1 workshop last night!

The most exciting part was the 15 minute delay in the middle of the workshop. The SWAT team decided to show up in the middle of the workshop to bust one of the neighboring businesses in the same building complex. Glenda and I thought it would be wise to stop training and have everyone lie down low to the mat since it looked like a war zone outside!

One of the officers who spoke to us afterwards thought it was cool that he noticed all of us staying low to the ground and being tactically safe. He said that's the first time he's ever seen this instead of the usual problem of people just getting in the way. He said in made sense that our Krav Maga training center would do that and he was impressed!

I hope those who participated benefited from the training. They also have a fun story to tell others!

Bettina Reich Review Of Our Program From Germany

Krav Maga students from other parts of the country and world frequently visit and participate at our training center.

We don't care which school or Krav Maga organization they are affiliated with. Everyone is welcome to train with us!

Thank you to our latest guest student for sharing her experience with us:

"Thanks to Randall and Glenda for letting me train with the last three weeks visiting from out of state. Really enjoyed my time and classes. Highly recommend this school for self defense." The training is hard and fun all at the same time. I hope I never, ever have to use the skills I'm learning on someone for real, but it sure feels good to know I won't be helpless.

Randall is disciplined, experienced, precise and patient. He's extremely skilled, and knows how to teach those skills to others.

Randall and Glenda are truly unique professional people who have the experience and talent to teach skills to anybody willing to learn.

The school is clean, the training is extremely good, the students and staff are all wonderful people.

Can't wait for my next vacation.

Thank you so much, Glenda and Randall, you're awesome"

Krav Maga Level 1 Workshop Krav Maga Level 1 Workshop For FREE!

When: Friday, April 10, 2015
Time: 7:00 - 10:00 pm
Cost: FREE!

2015 is our five year anniversary for our Krav Maga training center in Pompano Beach, Florida.

As a thank you to all our current and former students, we will teach TWO different workshops FREE of charge!

The first free event is this Krav Maga Level 1 Workshop (the other is the Anti-Hostage Workshop on May 15).

For those students who plan on taking their Level 1 test on April 18, they should attend this workshop to fine-tune their techniques, as well as get instructor approval to participate in the testing.

This workshop is only available to our current and former students who have trained at our center before!

Please RSVP if you plan on attending.

Matt Schwalbach RIP Matt Schwalbach

Randall and I learned some sad news this evening. One of our students that joined us early on when we moved to Florida has passed away. His name was Matthew Schwalbach, Matt (pictured second from the right when he completed his Level 1 Krav Maga test).

Matt was an extremely nice person and well rounded. He loved watching MMA. Cain Velasquez & Bigfoot Silva was his all time favorite fight but he had a much softer side too. He never met an animal that he didn’t like, a sunrise that wasn’t beautiful, a downpour of rain that wasn’t beneficial. I could go on but you get the idea.

He was so passionate about these things that he created, designed and launched Karmaboost.com. Did I mention he was a pretty smart guy too? You could go to Karmaboost and find one thing or several things that you were passionate about. That you wanted to help make a difference in, whether it be ending poverty, animal rights, disease research, free mammograms, etc. That all sounds pretty cool but the coolest part of all was that to donate to any of these things all you had to do was click a button. You didn’t need to pay anything, you didn’t need to give any...ANY information out...no email, no name, no nothing!

Matt didn’t do this to make money. Matt did this because that’s the person he was.

-Glenda

Use It Or Lose It Krav Maga... Use It Or Lose It

"Self Defense, just like any other skill like CPR or the Heimlich maneuver is very much a "use it or lose it" sort of practice.

It's like anything in life, honestly. "Practice makes perfect." "Use it or lose it." "You are what you practice most." These are all quotes about continually pursuing the things you are interested in and not giving up. Just as Krav Maga is always changing and adopting new and better techniques, when you study Krav Maga, you should be willing to pursue it and grow with it.

Taking a few workshops or a couple of months of Krav Maga to "get by" is not enough. Self defense is a "perishable" skill and while those workshops are informative, it should be a part of a continuing education..."

Michele Hickford New Review Of Our Krav Maga Program

Thank you to Michele Hickford for giving us this testimonial of our Krav Maga program:

"As a woman frequently out on my own, I figured it might not be a bad idea to learn some self defense techniques. And at 4'10" and 96 pounds, it's not like I could intimidate anyone older than maybe a fifth-grader.

My friend (and fellow student) Alan Feldmesser told me how fired up he was about his classes with Randall and Glenda at Krav Maga Worldwide, so I finally got off my (now firmer) butt and signed up.

This has been one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. I'm learning something useful, getting a great workout and meeting lots of interesting folks.

The training is hard and exhilarating and scary and fun all at the same time. I hope I never, ever have to use the skills I'm learning on someone for real, but it sure feels good to know I won't be helpless.

Thank you, Randall and Glenda, for literally changing my life."

Krav Maga comic book New Review Of Our Program

A while back, I asked one of our students if he would be willing to give us a testimonial we could use for our Krav Maga program.

JJ is a terrific artist, so I suggested he should explain his experience with us in a one page comic book type of format.

Last week, he gave us a preview of what it will be like and it's awesome! Now I know what Glenda and I would look like if we were in a comic book.

Thank you very much JJ! We look forward to the rest of it.

Krav Maga - Getting Up Off the Ground - Obstacle Behind You Variation New Krav Maga Video - Getting Up Off The Ground - Obstacle Behind You Variation

We just uploaded a new video titled "Krav Maga - Getting Up Off the Ground (Obstacle Behind You Variation)".

We apologize for not making a new video for over a month. Our Krav Maga training center re-located to a larger facility. The move and remodel is taking up a lot of our time. Once we finish the remodel, we will get back on track of uploading a new video each week. In the meantime, we'll upload new videos as often as we can.

After a student learns how to get up off the ground, a question that occasionally comes up is "What do you do if there's a wall behind you?"

This video offers two variations to getting up off your back or side that work despite having an obstacle behind you.

new location We Have Moved To Our New Location

This past weekend we moved into our new location. The new location is right next door in Suite 5E.

We are excited about the new location because of the following:

1. It's twice as big! It will be set-up so we can cut the room in half and have two classes going on at the same time or use the entire space for one big class. Now we can add more classes to the schedule and have more spaces available for future workshops.

2. Better air conditioning! This unit has two AC's that are less noisy and work better. However, if you're a student don't necessarily be too happy about this. It just means the instructors get to work you out even harder and give you less water breaks!  ☺

3. Parking is available on both sides of the building complex! Suite 5E for the east side of the building and 5W for the west side. For those of you who come to our training center southbound can now avoid that annoying intersection/U-turn that you have to take to get the east side of the building. Now you can use the parking lot on the side that's more convenient for you and you will have more available parking spaces to choose from.

The east side of the room is now ready to handle our current class schedule. Over the next couple of months we will finish the re-model on the west side and start adding new classes and hold workshops again. Please be patient with us during this process. It's going to take some time and be a lot of work for us to finish.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH to Christopher Och and JJ Oddone for helping us move all the equipment over from the old space to the new space this past Sunday!

Krav Maga - Low Round Kick Defense - Using The Shin New Krav Maga Video - Low Round Kick Defense (Using The Shin) - Calf Kick Defense Variation

The Low Round Kick Defense (Using The Shin) is traditional taught as a defense when your attacker is targeting your thigh or knee with their round kick. What do you do when they target your calf?

This video explains why both beginner and advance fighters often will target your calf when they throw low round kicks. Then it shows you how to modify your defense to address this problem.

Krav Maga Active Shooter Workshop - Revgear University 2014 - Darren Levine - Jon Pascal Krav Maga Active Shooter Workshop with Darren Levine and Jon Pascal

I finally got around to posting this picture of us after we participated in the Krav Maga Active Shooter workshop at Revgear University earlier this month.

I love this picture for many reasons.

This picture is of Glenda and I with the instructors of the workshop, Darren Levine and Jon Pascal.

For those of you who don't know...

Darren Levine is the Chief Instructor of Krav Maga Worldwide. A 6th degree black belt, he is one of the highest-ranked Krav Maga instructors in the world and received extensive training directly from Imi Lichtenfeld, the creator of Krav Maga.

Jon Pascal is a 4th Degree Black in Krav Maga and has studied Krav Maga for over 25 years. He is the Director of the Krav Maga Worldwide™ (KMW), Force Training Division and has 15 years of law enforcement experience with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He is currently a reserve deputy assigned to the Field Operations Training Unit, Force Training Division and has trained in the US, Israel, Europe and Asia. The KMW Force Training Division is dedicated exclusively to training law enforcement, security and military personnel. Jon and the KMW Force Training Division are responsible for providing training and support to over 4,000 KMW Force Training Division instructors worldwide.

I've trained under Darren before and it's always a privilege!

This was the first time I've trained under Jon. He was terrific and is right up there with some of the best Krav Maga instructors I've trained under so far!

I tend to be a pest when I attend workshops and always have a question or two for the instructors during water breaks. Both Darren and Jon were very nice and informative in regards to my questions. Jon was nice enough to tell me he appreciates the questions and he likes them because this way he knows which students are really paying attention.

I'm very proud to state that both were complimentary of my performance during the workshop. Darren told me "You're really good". Jon gave me the best compliment I've ever received in regards to my Krav Maga ability: "Your speed is amazing. Thank you for demonstrating what Krav Maga is supposed to look like."

I've been training in some type of martial art for almost 32 years and Krav Maga for 15 years. It feels really good when your hard work and dedication pays off and is recognized by highly respected instructors like Darren and Jon.

However, the main reason why I love this photo is because this is the first time Glenda and I have trained together at a Krav Maga workshop. We've attended many other seminars together for other types of martial arts training but not Krav Maga. In the past, I've done all the Krav Maga instructor training and then passed on these techniques to Glenda.

The intensity of this workshop is not like the more beginner friendly workshops we teach at our location to our students. This workshop was instructor level intense and strenuous. This training is always very hard. However, it's a lot more fun and tolerable when you get to train with the person you love and who is also your best friend!

Glenda you did a good job at this workshop! Thank you for being a great training partner!

-Randall

Tim Kennedy Workshops - Revgear University 2014 Tim Kennedy Special Forces Self Defense and Wrestling Workshops

Glenda and I finished the last day (Sunday) of Revgear University.

We skipped all the workshops on Sunday morning. Between lack of sleep from traveling, being worn out from the previous day's workshops, and staying out too late Saturday night having fun at San Antonio's Downtown/Riverwalk, we felt we earned the morning off and slept in.

If you haven't been to San Antonio's Downtown/Riverwalk and get a chance, I would highly recommend it. Lots of fun! We will post some pictures on our personal Facebook page (Koch Martial Arts) later this week.

In the afternoon we didn't participate but watched two workshops taught by current UFC middleweight contender Tim Kennedy titled "Special Forces Self Defense" and "Wrestling".

For those of you who don't know, Tim Kennedy is one of the few fighters ever to serve full-time in the United States Army as a Green Beret while also fighting professionally.

He has black belts in multiple styles including Army Combatives. It was interesting to see him explain and demonstrate the concepts behind the weapons defense systems he's been taught.

I've trained in multiple weapons defense styles besides Krav Maga. I'm always looking for new things to enhance the Krav Maga weapons defenses I train in and teach. I definitely learned some new drills and concepts that I liked and look forward to implementing them at our training center.

I enjoyed his Wrestling workshop even more. He explained in great detail the exact same "chain wrestling" style takedowns he uses when he fights. He explained that he doesn't have the extensive wrestling background or pure athleticism that some other fighters have. To compensate for this he uses one wrestling technique to set-up the second, third, or even fourth technique to get the takedown. It was awesome to see him show the exact same sequences that he uses when he fights. I look forward to watching more of his past and future fights to see the techniques he taught being used in real action!

Tim was very good about spreading his time around with each individual who participated in the workshop and help them with any questions or unique problems they were facing while drilling. I'm glad I didn't participate because it allowed me the chance to watch and hear him go around the room and adjust each technique for the benefit of that particular individual.

I learned so MUCH watching his workshop and look forward to adding his techniques to our Krav Maga wrestling curriculum that we teach at Level 3 and above, as well as in our Fight program classes.

Tim was very approachable and nice! He was gracious enough to let Glenda and I get a picture with him.

Krav Maga - The Legal Use of Force Lecture Day 3 At Revgear University

Glenda and I finished day 3 at Revgear University

In the morning we attended two different fitness workshops titled "Cutting Edge Fitness Trends" and "Fitness Domination". Our Fitness/Conditioning class students better be prepared to get tortured (in good way) by Glenda with a lot of new exercises and drills!

In the afternoon we attended the following workshops: "Social Media" (I find that funny as I post this), "Legal Use of Force Lecture", and "Owners Only Reception & Roundtable".

The Legal Use of Force Lecture was taught by Darren Levine, Chief Instructor of Krav Maga Worldwide. He covered a lot of topics such as "3 Golden Rules of Self-Defense", "Reasonable Person Standard", "Property Protection Force", "Deadly Force", "Stand Your Ground", "True Man Doctrine", "Castle Doctrine", "Peterson Doctrine" and more!

We do have an article posted on our website titled "Use of Force: How Much Force Can I Use to Defense Myself?". It summarizes some of the topics that were covered in the The Legal Use of Force Lecture: Use of Force: How Much Force Can I Use to Defense Myself?

The Owners Only Reception & Roundtable had school owners from all over the country attend. Many of them are the leading experts in the martial arts business industry. Many topics were covered such as where everyone thinks the martial arts/self defense/fitness industry will be heading in the next 10 years.

It was a long day but we learned a TON of stuff that we will bring back to improve our own training center!

Darren Levine Jon Pascale Krav Maga Active Shooter and Hostage Taking/Anti Abduction & Kidnapping Seminars

Glenda and I finished day 2 at the Revgear University convention in San Antonio, Texas.

In the morning we participated in the Krav Maga Active Shooter Seminar taught by Darren Levine & Jon Pascal.

Here's the seminar description:

The Krav Maga system prepares people to successfully defend against, and survive, modern day threats. It is becoming increasingly evident that we are living in a world that requires not only situational awareness of the public places and businesses that we frequent during our daily lives, but there is also a need to formulate a plan in the unexpected event that we would come face-to-face with an active shooter.

This seminar teaches participants to defend against an armed intruder in a residence, in the work-place, businesses, and other locations in the public domain. Training scenarios include: dealing with attackers on the move, while hunting down and targeting victims in rooms, and around corners of a structure, and in varying lighting conditions.

The highlight of this seminar was finishing with the training scenarios. They had set-up multiple stations that simulate different settings such as an office, school, concert, theatre, or the use of actually vehicles that were padded for safety. The lighting was dark and varied with background noise including loud music, shots being fired, victims screaming, etc. Sometimes you would have to play the roll of the victim, civilian/defender, or the shooter who was padded up with safety equipment and a long gun and handgun. If you played the roll of the civilian you would have to navigate through the stations or wait for the shooter to go through the station and disarm them individual or in groups with other civilians.

In the afternoon we participated in the Krav Maga Hostage Taking/Anti Abduction & Kidnapping Seminar. We went over how to prevent a gunman from holding you in a vehicle or preventing them from forcing you into the vehicle through the doors or trunk. Since the vehicles are padding we were literally slamming each other against them while doing the training scenarios.

We both learned new gun defenses and training scenarios that we look forward to sharing with our students at our training center in the future!

"I had wanted to learn Krav Maga for several years, so when I moved to south Florida a year ago I immediately began searching for places to train. After watching a class at Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano, I knew I had found the place for me. Randall and Glenda are incredible instructors who make the classes enjoyable and practical. The students are extremely friendly and come from a very diverse set of backgrounds. I've learned so much in the time I've been training with Randall and Glenda. I'm more confident, in better shape, and the classes are a great outlet for any stress. I would definitely recommend Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano to anyone interested in Krav Maga. Thank you so much Randall and Glenda!"

"Randall and Glenda,

Thanks"

Teddy van Wingen

"My name is Tom Schafer, i am a first year Krav Maga student, its been a great year learning and studying Krav Maga with Randall and Glenda. When I first search for a martial class, I look at everything from kung fu to aikido , and I Stumbled upon Krav Maga and unique way of self defense , and how it incorporates so many martial arts into one, so made the move and join Glenda and Randall classes ,from the minute i walk in , their was a sense of seriousness ,but good hearted people who not only ,welcome me with empty arms , but willing to help with questions if i had any,Randall and Glenda teach all the classes with a sense of patience and detailed expertise of the techniques of Krav Maga, they are upfront and honest of what each student needs to do , to accomplish the curriculum and moved on to the next step.for me the classes have been more than just classes, i leave each classes exhausted but fulfilled with a mental and physical strength that i have not felt for years, you gain confidence not of cockiness but a self assurance that you take anywhere you go, any situation you encounter, that's i how I feel now, and Glenda and Randall make sure they give you that, their there for any questions and answers you may need, both Randall and Glenda are humble folks but they knowtheir stuff, for those who are reading and thinking of joining Krav Maga classes this is the place , you won't be disappointed ,again thank you Randall and Glenda"

Monica Bondar

( I could also swear - " it's addictive " :)

Krav Maga - Self Defense - Fighting - Fitness

The conditioning class is the best I've seen in years, it is full of action, you work cardio and strength in a very professional way taught by Glenda.

Krav Maga - Self Defense - Fighting - Fitness

"Thanks to Randall and Glenda for letting me train with the last three weeks visiting from out of state. Really enjoyed my time and classes. Highly recommend this school for self defense.

The training is hard and fun all at the same time.

"I've had an interest in martial arts and been practicing one form or another for a very long time. From kickboxing, karate, wrestling, and ju jitsu I feel like I'll always have a scrappers chance against any threat that may come my way.

However, my newest and greatest motivation for safety is my infant daughter. I can't just be confident that I can remove or protect myself from dangerous intentions any more. I have to be POSITIVE that no matter the situation, no matter the number of attackers, no matter what they're armed with, I can make a big enough nuisance of myself that my wife and daughter will escape and survive. Preferably me too. That is where Krav Maga becomes a pivotal aspect of my life. All the best of all the styles I've spent my life learning are combined in Krav. It is BY FAR the most effective self defense system ever created and changes the definition of "Martial Art" forever. After spending a year training at Koch Martial Arts with Randal and his wonderful team, I've realized that spending time in any other discipline would be a half assed effort toward my families safety. The slogan "Get in shape, go home safe" isn't just marketing. It's true!

For anyone looking for the epitome of hand to hand combat training, Krav Maga has no equal. For anyone looking for the epitome of a Krav Maga instructor, Randal has no equal."

"Let me start this testimony by saying, signing up for Krav Maga at Krav Maga Worldwide was one of the best decisions I've made. I was always of the opinion that one should know how to defend oneself, women especially. I did some research which led me to Krav Maga as it had the vast majority agreeing as the best self-defense option as far as effectiveness is concerned.

I live in Deerfield and found the Krav Maga Worldwide website, when I sent Glenda the first email asking about the program she was so helpful and attentive that when she offered me to watch a class before I signed up, I just forwent it and scheduled my introduction class.

After the first class, I was hooked. I remember leaving the class with a clear understanding that this was one of the best financial and time investments I could've made. Let's be honest, when you are committing yourself to learn something it required from you an investment of time, effort and let's not forget the money part. If anyone is debating registering for classes in Krav Maga Worldwide because they aren't sure if it's worthy it, let me help you stop wasting time. Wonder no more, it's not worth not to take the classes. Plain and simple, you are rarely going to have a chance to invest on something that can save your life someday. Krav Maga is that investment.

Randall's thoroughness and teaching skills are second to none. Glenda's conditioning class will, beyond the shadow of a doubt, condition you. Her support and customer service is impeccable.

If you have been waiting, wait no more. Every day you wait to sign up is a day that you could be learning and training new techniques. It's one of the best decision you will make."

Krav Maga self defense fighting fitness

"I have previously attended law enforcement academies, as well as numerous reality-based personal protection courses, including courses sponsored by other Krav Maga organizations. Not only do Randall and Glenda teach a viable, effective method of self-defense steeped in reality, but their methods of instruction to both novices and advanced students alike are impeccable. Some instructions are considered 'subject matter experts' and are very good at repeating or parroting what they were taught. Randall and Glenda are 'substance matter experts' and explain in full detail the principle behind a particular technique, the reason for its proper execution and some of the common pitfalls that may arise if the technique is executed erroneously.

All of the drills & techniques presented in training are pressure tested in an ego free environment so that novices & advanced students progress accordingly and at their own pace. If you are interested in training in a reality based fighting system, I believe this is one of the only viable options in South Florida."

"As a 51 year-old woman, I had lost confidence in my ability to defend myself. Fear led me to take action. After searching for a school where I could learn practical techniques in self-defense, Glenda invited me to watch a Krav Maga class as she patiently answered all my questions. She spent an individual session preparing me for the basics of my first class. After 8 weeks of working with Randall, I'm amazed at how quickly I'm learning. Randall is disciplined, experienced, precise and patient. He's extremely skilled, and knows how to teach those skills to others. Every day I'm more mentally and physically confident that if necessary I can fight back. We all feel awkward at first. Don't let it stop you."

"My name is Doug, I am a 19 year old premed student. I have been raised within a lineage of doctors and after seeing innumerable cases of patients that were assaulted or stricken I considered to start some type of self-defense training. When I decided to start physical combat schooling I didn't know where to turn. I looked to MMA, Jiu Jitsu, and Karate, but after thoroughly reviewing my choices I realized Randal's Krav Maga class was the best choice for me because it involves real life situations. Situations that I have seen the consequence to if you are untrained. Krav Maga is a form of Israeli martial arts that is taught to the Israeli soldiers. It is not a ring sport, it is meant to get you out of an emergency situation as fast as possible with minimal movements and minimal energy usage. Krav Maga is designed to save your life.

My first class of training I was a little doubtful, but Master Randall's warm welcoming and exceedingly expert demeanor took my skepticism away and I recognized I was at the appropriate place. We began by learning accurate footing involving balance and stability and how the Krav Maga punch is on a certain tilt. Randall studied my every move making sure I was flawless before we proceeded. His responsiveness and helpfulness to modifying my movements displayed that he cares about his students, that truly impressed me.

I am so happy I made the decision to begin training for Krav Maga. Once you begin training you cannot stop! Randal makes training fun and purposeful, while including an awesome workout! Krav Maga can be trained by everyone, no matter how young or old. I have nothing but good to say! I now feel safer and prepared just in case something dangerous was to happen. Krav Maga also helps me stay in shape! My decision to start training Krav Maga Worldwide- Pompano was a decision well made only resulting in positive outcomes!"

"What a pleasure it has been to find Krav Maga teachings so close to my home. My son Jacob had been doing another form of Israeli Mixed Martial Arts for the past 6 years and I was always his sparing partner, but was not allowed to take that formal class. With finding Koch Krav Maga, it has been amazing! I have been taking classes with my son, and have steadily been learning and improving my technical skills as well as seeing a big improvement in his. We have both gone to the conditioning classes and we grapple every Wednesday night. We are not always partners even though we are in the same class, but that is by choice so our skills can be tested better with various others in the classes. Tonight Randall started the summer grappling workout. IT WAS FANTASTIC! I love it so much more because we really grapple while learning new techniques. It was excellent the way any questions were answered and repeat demonstrations were done without a second thought. I would so recommend anyone to try this. Self defense is so important in today's time, and you learn so quickly and can use it immediately. I should say that my son is 18 and I will be 60 this year. This is for folks of all ages. A terrific workout! All the classes are intense in the most positive way. I love being fit. I love having the ability to defend myself. Everyone is friendly and helpful. A TOTAL delight!! Thanks so much."

"My name is Eric, my wife Karen and I have been training at Krav Maga World Wide for a few months now, (we took a month off to travel) and felt every minute of our next class. The class is great, and Randall is a great instructor, i feel like i really learned something every time we leave the class. Taking the class with my wife is also great, Its something we enjoy doing together, and I love the fact that we learn how to defend ourselves against real world situations. Besides the self defense training the workout is great and i feel like we are in much better shape then when we started. i feel better all around, i have back problems and back pain all the time, but ever since starting the class my back feels so much better. I recommend Krav Maga Worldwide of pompano to anyone wanting to get in shape and learn how to protect themselves.

Paul Antonelli

"I started off like most boys do fascinated with traditional martial arts, sometime later I got more into self defense based training and for the last 10 years I have trained in some type of martial art almost daily. This training has sent me all over the country and I've had the pleasure of training with and meeting some of the most talented martial artists in the world. I'm an instructor in Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Kali, I hold credentials in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and my training has even led me to teaching Police Officers at the Metropolitan Police Institute in Miami -Dade County.

In an effort to add to my own personal martial arts arsenal, I became interested in Krav Maga. I asked around and visited several schools. Quickly I became disheartened when it seemed like my standards weren't going to be met with the schools I visited and I even wondered if I should give up\settle for less then what I wanted. That's when I heard about Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano Beach. I took a look at the website and figure that I would just send them an email. Frankly, Pompano is a little outside of my normal stomping grounds and I didn't want to waste a trip to see more of the same.

Glenda (the school manager) responded to my email quickly with all the information I requested. Honestly, I found it quite refreshing as most schools just sent you back the typical "come in if you want this information" email. Along with the answers to my questions she invited me to come in and watch a class. I was so pleasantly surprised by the no pressure email, that I thought what the heck let me go watch a class.

I went in on a Tuesday and Glenda came over and greeted me as I was walking in. I took a seat in the viewing area, and Glenda sat next to me and showed me the syllabus as the students prepared for their training. I don't quite remember what the lesson was that I watched that night, but I do fondly remember watching Randall teach the class. I was instantly impressed with what I saw, Randall's teaching style was simple and to the point. He taught with passion, and clearly understood each action he was performing and teaching. At the same time, Glenda sat quietly next to me and answered any questions I had. At the end of class, she got up and thanked me for coming in and asked me if I had any more questions. I think it's important to emphasize that this clearly wasn't a sales pitch, Glenda presented the information to me plainly and didn't put any pressure on me what so ever. I have rarely seen that at any martial arts school, but I guess she's able to do that because they really do have a great program that sells itself.

Now having trained with them for a while, I can honestly say I'm extremely happy with my decision. The school is clean and safe, the training is extremely good, and the students\staff are all wonderful people. Randall is easily up there with any of the world renowned instructors that I've trained under. Their students come from all walks of life, and every class I find a great training partner. Both Glenda and Randall are always available for questions, and many times I've seen students stay after class for a little extra help if they needed it. I would recommend this school to anyone interested in Krav Maga, Self Defense, or even someone looking to just improve their own health. You won't meet better people or find a better Krav Maga school in South Florida."

"I would love to share my experience with the workshop (Defending MMA Submissions - Part 2) since I know that I read others' ideas and always look for what I could be missing. I did not know what to expect but what I ended up finding out is that I enjoyed learning the moves as much or more than the defense of them. There was plenty of time for each person to get individual attention to make sure that each of the 3 defenses and attacks were understood before moving on to the next one. 3 hours seemed like a long time but afterwards I couldn't say that I hadn't learned a lot and would do it again. For me, that's what is worth it, wanting to do it again. Hope everyone takes advantage of these opportunities since it helps with overall skills and makes you feel more of the community we have. Thanks."

"My name is I.G. and I am a 10 years veteran Federal Law Enforcement Agent. Currently I am a second level student in the Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano Beach. After a few close calls on the job, I began to look for Krav Maga classes. I was looking for a place where the instructors really care about their students and did not put business profit above the integrity of this honored self-defense technique.

I am so happy that I found Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano Beach because it combines a family environment, strict regiment of tactical techniques and instructors that really care about us and our learning process. Randall, Glenda, and the rest of the instructors share a great deal of knowledge and made me feel part of a family from day one. From a Law Enforcement stand point, Krav Maga has taken my confidence to work the streets to new levels. I am so pleased with them that I am bringing the rest of my family to Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano Beach so they can walk the streets safely too.

I recommend Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano Beach not just to the community but to any Law Enforcement Officer that wants to have an extra tool in their bag and increase their chances of facing a close contact challenge in a successful manner. I also recommend Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano Beach to young ladies, so they can learn how to defend themselves from close contact attacks and do not become victims of predators.

Thanks Randall and Glenda"

"I always wanted my kids to be able to defend themselves, and enrolled them at a very early age in Tae Kwon Do, Gabby excelled and received her Black Belt before the age of 12. I noticed along the way I didnt think the training she was receiving would translate in a real world situation, or God forbid an attack by a bigger or stronger opponent. She also lost interest quickly and after getting her Black Belt asked if she could stop going. Enter Krav Maga. I first stumbled across it online while researching self defense techniques. I found Krav Maga worldwide Pompano beach and went to see a class. I immediately liked it for myself and thought I could get Gabby to attend with me. I thought if I was going with her, she would be more involved and dedicated. Well its been a fantastic experience to date. Not only do we both love the way Randall teaches the techniques, no nonsense...all real, but its been a great way for my daughter and I to bond and spend quality time together. My favorite time of the week is the car ride home after class just her and I, talking about what we learned, and just everyday stuff. I highly recommend Krav Maga Worldwide, Pompano Beach for anyone interested in learning real world self defense techniques."

Erin Carey

"I will never forget the day I made the decision to contact Krav Maga Worldwide-Pompano Beach. As an independent woman, I wanted a safety plan; a defense system I'd be able to call upon should I ever end up physically threatened or attacked. I researched various martial arts schools, learning about the different methods and gauged how applicable they were to my needs. My father, a former martial arts instructor, aided with the research process. I stumbled upon Krav Maga, not knowing anything about it. I read the mission statement from Darren Levine (founder of Krav Maga Worldwide), watched several videos, read and absorbed the #1 principle in Krav Maga ("Go home safe"), and was convinced...Krav Maga was exactly what I needed. It emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios. Perfect for a single woman wanting the ability to defend herself.

My experience with Krav Maga Worldwide-Pompano Beach has been incredibly rewarding. Glenda welcomed me on my first viewing. Her charisma and hospitality were inspiring and inviting. I started classes with Randall and found his teaching style effective and motivating. And the fellow students completed the trinity. I have felt like a valued member of an amazing family from the first moment I stepped foot in that center. I work full time and attend school. With seven Level 1 classes to choose from, I'm able to train despite my chaotic schedule. I selected Gabe's Sunday morning session as my weekly class (although I'm hoping to increase to 2 classes per week, as I love it so much). Gabe is an awesome instructor and coach. He is incredibly talented and engaging, and a pro at explaining the moves in layman's terms. He also has a great sense of humor. His classes are challenging, but so much fun!

Krav Maga empowers by helping to prepare me for whatever might come my way. It stresses the importance of awareness and knowing what is out there, how to avoid trouble, and how to respond to a threat or attack. Krav Maga has improved my physical prowess and my confidence has skyrocketed (just knowing that I can better handle myself). And I'm super-excited and anticipant for continued growth and confidence. I look forward to my Krav Maga training all week. When I'm not at the center, I'm practicing in anticipation for class. It stems from pure, unbridled enthusiasm over the notion that I'll be able to protect myself (perhaps even save my life, or someone else's) should anyone ever try to hurt me. I am so fortunate and thankful to have found Krav Maga Worldwide."

"At first, I was hesitant in joining Randall's Krav Maga classes in Pompano Beach. After all, I was old (age 68), out of shape, and had heart surgery. I needed to get back in shape, and not use my age nor my surgery as excuses for my sedentary life. Several months ago, I had an extended phone conversation with Glenda. She reviewed the Krav Maga program and how it could help me achieve my fitness goals. Glenda invited me to observe a class, followed up with a private lesson. After my first group session, I was hooked...I never looked back.

Randall, Glenda, and Jacob were my prime motivators for getting back into shape. I have substantially improved both my focus and my physical conditioning. I am now in the best shape of my life, with the confidence to handle myself in any situation.

Thanks Randall, and Glenda, for taking an "old guy" and giving him the confidence that, regardless of age or physical condition, it's never too late to change your life."

"With the rapidly rising crime rate here in Broward county, as a female, I decided I need to learn how to 'seriously' protect myself. An ex-military coworker advised me to look into the Krav Maga program. I called 2 schools which teach the Krav Maga program, one that is much closer to my home and Krav Maga Worldwide Training center in Pompano Beach. When I spoke with the instructor from the school closer to me, he was very rushed and immediately went through the belts and the pricing to test for each. It felt very commercialized with no sense of personal touch at all. I then spoke with Glenda Peel, Koch Martial Arts director & trainer, she was very patient with my many questions and encouraged me to come see a class to get a better understanding of the Krav Maga program. Glenda sat next to me while I watched, again answering my questions and was very happy to do so. I immediately felt comfortable with her and the school. As a local bank manager in a tough neighborhood, I decided to waste no time and began classes. Randall Koch, owner/certified instructor, is professional, patient and passionate about his instruction. He is able to spot what needs improvement and guide you in a very easy and understandable manner. All the other students, both male and female, are very friendly and willing to help each other during and after class. I feel comfortable at the school and confident I am learning from the best. I work 50+ hours per week so my time is very precious and the school closer to my home certainly would have been more convenient. Don't make that mistake..... not all schools are created equal; where and who you train with is critical to your development. I can't say enough great things about Randall, Glenda, the other instructors and Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano Beach. I'm trying to get to a second class per week and would go three times if I could. I have only been training a short time but already feel much more confident in my ability to defend myself. It's definitely hard work, but well worth it!

"Moving to Florida three years ago as a Red Belt in Taekwondo, I was frustrated that I could not find a school serious and dedicated enough to train in. Then I learned about Koch Martial Arts. Owned and operated by Randal Koch and Glinda Peel, their approach to teaching Krav Maga was exactly what I was looking for. While other schools try to lure students by offering many different styles, Koch Martial Arts has one focus. Teaching Krav Maga. This is a fighting and defense style that everyone can do that is based on real life situations. The Instructors confident teaching style easily has students moving from simple warm ups to more complex reality based self defense combinations. The supportive and professional atmosphere provides a great physical workout, allowing you to test your limits while learning the skills necessary to protect yourself and keep others safe if the need ever arises. I am happy to have found Koch Martial Arts and look forward to many years of training."

"I began searching for a no-nonsense, practical approach for handling confrontational situations and was fortunate enough to find Krav Maga Worldwide. After meeting both Randall and Glenda, I knew my search was over and my training was just beginning. Randall's experience is exemplified by his ability to teach anyone who is willing to learn. Learning the techniques, and mastering them, is within reach thanks to Randall's teaching style. The training environment is very welcoming and allows those without a martial arts background to learn invaluable skill sets within just a few classes. It's a great feeling knowing that you can protect yourself and your loved ones should the situation present itself. Schedule a time to meet with Randall and Glenda and you'll see why Krav Maga training is the real deal!"

"It's great you've decided to get in better shape, or just be more confident protecting yourself and others, but the next important decision is deciding how and where. Krav Maga is a very practical and straight forward to learn system that was recommended to me by friends with a solid martial arts background. At 45 I was a bit concerned about starting something new like Krav Maga but it's been great. The thing I most want to tell you is how lucky I got finding this studio.

There's not a lot ego here and everyone seems to concentrate on learning or helping out other students. It's simply a great place to learn and it's not an accident. Randall, the Head Instructor, has a very patient and calm demeanor that fosters an excellent learning environment. It's rather rare to find someone highly skilled in any field who also excels at imparting their knowledge. All the students here with a martial arts background that I've spoken to are equally impressed with this studio and Randall. Don't even think about walking, get up and run to Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano Beach!".

"I am a retired Federal Agent with 30 yrs of law enforcement experience. I have been involved in many 'incidents' on and off the job and by an amazing amount of luck I never got hurt. Throughout my career I never even considered taking self defense classes or learning the Martial Arts (My mistake). I have recently become motivated to take Krav Maga classes through watching and enjoying my 10 yr. old kid learn MMA. I am 60 yrs old and at this stage in my life I do not want to spend the time required to learn the traditional Martial Arts. Krav Maga is a street fighting/survival system that is easy to learn, developed with that ease in mind, and extremely effective as a self defense method to 'end it quickly' in Your Favor. Exactly what I was looking for! The head instructor at Krav Maga Worldwide, in Pompano Beach, Randall, and his Assistant, Glenda, are both very dedicated instructors and go out of their way to make their students feel comfortable and appreciated. I really like the school and there are students of all ages, male and female, learning together every day. I highly recommend Randall's school to everyone, and like the American Express commercial states, 'Never leave home without it'".

"Krav Maga has changed my life and inspired me to channel my energy in a positive way. Randall and Glenda are truly unique professional people who have the experience and talent to teach skills to anybody willing to learn. Training at Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano Beach is a golden opportunity and one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's an honor to be part of such an effective program and surrounded by amazing friends. The atmosphere in class is outstanding, stress free and very supportive to all walks of life. Train hard, be aware, act with vigor when threatened, go home safe! Krav Maga is my escape from reality, preparing me for reality."

"I recently moved to Florida from New Jersey to further my career. While moving here by myself has been challenging at times, training at Krav Maga Worldwide has helped greatly. This facility has a little bit for everyone. While all classes will make you break a sweat, Glenda's conditioning class is the perfect cardio workout that focuses on techniques used in training. Randall's training in various martial arts can be seen in almost every class, but he specifically offers two fighting classes to allow you to develop your skills one on one. But perhaps the most important classes are the actual self defense classes. Each class will allow you to develop your combative technique then apply those techniques in an efficient, reaction-based defense. What's great about this gym is that everyone gets to know each other fairly quickly. Randall, Glenda, the other Level One instructors, and even your training partners are always offering advice to improve your strengths and develop your weaknesses. Training at Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano Beach has been the best decision I've made since I moved."

"Its almost two years since I've started training at your school, and I'm proud to have met such a dedicated teacher who understands the art and is passionate about teaching. I'm honored to be a part of this school and the effort you and Glenda take to better our community."

"Like the book says... KM is not an martial arts. I say it is the confidence we acquire through practice, and practice, to be able to walk in life more confident and secure. On every class there are challenges, that only with practice, I have learned to over comes them. Thank to that I feel more confident, feel more energetic, agile, and in a better shape. I look forward to every class."

"When I first started researching what martial art I wanted to focus on I was overwhelmed with all the different options. I have many friends who are either in the military or with other backgrounds who have mastered different forms. They all told me that if they could do it all over again they would choose Krav Maga. Not knowing what Krav Maga was I began to research it and found out that it was exactly what I was looking for. This form is more practical and efficient. Once I decided that this was what I wanted to do I contacted Glenda with questions regarding the classes and requirements. I came in one night and Glenda sat next to me and answered all of my questions. The atmosphere is very welcoming regardless of age or experience. Glenda and Randall are very patient people they do not get annoyed or aggravated when they are approached with questions, instead they want you to ask questions, they want you to understand and learn. I have done a few private lesson with Randall and he has a lot of experience with martial arts in general, especially with Krav Maga. He understands that everyone is different, and with that being said, everyone encounters different issues when first starting out. Rather than working against you he works with you, helping you to the point that everything you learn will stay with you. I would highly recommended seeking out Krav Maga with Glenda and Randall for self-defense."

"This training center is first class. Randall & Glenda are seriously passionate, proffesional yet still easy going in their teachings. Can't wait for my next session...."

"I won the Tri-State Kid Gloves in New York as a minor, took Tae-Kwon Do for 6 months as a kid, and did BJJ for 3 months as an adult yet I learned more in one class with Randall than all of those 3 experiences combined. Both Randall and Glenda are like family to me and I would venture to say most, if not all, students feel the same way. Besides truly caring about the contribtions they are making to people's lives Randall is an absolute "technician" when it comes to teaching and his laid back yet active observatory approach is excellent. He is watching you all the time and when you have a question he addresses with laser guided precision. Go there and experience it for yourself and you won't regret it."

"I've always been interested in martial arts and fighting since I was young. When I first learned about Krav Maga about 4-5 years ago I did some research on it and instantly loved how effective it seemed to be and that it caters to not only the super fit but also the average joe. At least at the basic level it didn't appear to be something that you needed to be extremely fit for. Fast forward to present, I did some research looking for schools in the area and Krav Maga Worldwide Official Training Center was one of the first ones I found and the only one that had classes that worked within my schedule. Plus Glenda was so nice and very responsive in my emails! I was nervous about just jumping into something having very little training beforehand but Randall (and Jacob) made it SO easy to learn. Although I really didn't know what I was doing, the way they taught it just made it seem natural. I never felt afraid to ask a question and I've never seen Randall lose his patience. Being a woman in Broward County I feel like it's so necessary to know at least basic self defense. To be honest, the threat of rape and murder is so real down here that you really don't know what can happen. I feel much safer when I'm out and even my friends make me be the brave one when we're in dodgy situations. I'm excited to learn more and progress to the point that I can feel safe being out and I wouldn't want to do it anywhere else than at Krav Maga Worldwide Training Center under the leadership of Randall, Glenda, and of course Jacob! Thanks guys, you're awesome!"

"I became interested in Krav Maga after watching a television documentary on martial arts. I am a Vietnam Era Vet and having just retired from a sedentary job, I knew I had to find something that would keep my interest and provide me with a cardiovascular workout as I was not interested in working out at the local gym.

I began researching Krav Maga on-line and found the nearest training center was in Maryland, a 1 1/2 hour drive from my home town of Harrisburg, PA. I began going there 3 times a week for approximately 10 months and loved the workout. Due to the distance, I convinced a buddy of mine, who is also retired, to work out with me during the week. We bought additional books, training videos and equipment. I always wished I would have tested while training in Maryland.

Last year in planning a trip to my parents, who live in Boynton Beach, I discovered Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano. So, I decided to check it out. I attended several classes per week during my 4 week stay. Although I had been away from formal training over the last several years, training under Randall brought it all back in a matter of no time.

This year, I again planned a trip to Fla. and contacted Glenda to see if I could again train with them. They were more than happy to have me come back. There were others in the class who I had trained with the prior year but had moved on to more advanced classes. During February, I attended about 4 times a week training with Randall and Glenda who encouraged me test..

I enjoyed training at Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano. The staff is both knowledgeable and professional, and their style is unique. They train in a manner to attain confidence in yourself without intimidating you if you messed up. I tested as part of the "Fab 4" and ended up passing the Level I test at 63 years old. I love this training because it not only provided a good workout; it gives me the confidence to be able to handle situations I hope I never have to deal with."

"What I like most about my Krav Maga classes is we are taught real-world self-defense, not posing or "for-show" martial arts. I've had previous MMA & Jiu-Jitsu training and was happy with those, but I especially like the new skills I've acquired through my Krav Maga classes because I feel that it is self-defense at it's finest. Not just fighting to hurt back, but survival techniques and strategies to get away, should it ever come to that. Our instructors Randall & Glenda don't just work on our physical strength & agility, but on our mental skills too. They teach us to be prepared for anything, improvise & how to handle all situations. I look forward to participating in all the new classes that will provide opportunities for me to learn new skills."

"Krav Maga Worldwide of Pompano Beach is the best Krav center around. I tried some in West Palm but Randall and Glenda's center have, hands down, the most professional, focused, disciplined and structured classes. They create an extremely comfortable atmosphere for all different types of people. The techniques are broken down into simple steps that are easy to learn while all questions are handled immediately and in a friendly way. As a self-defense course, Krav can't be beat...it is focused solely on getting you home safely, without unrealistic sport-focused guidelines or eastern philosophies that require a spiritual commitment. The workout is great, mentally and physically! And the level of self-confidence soars as you feel you will be able to defend yourself should the situation arise."

"Krav maga not only stimulates a since of courage and a feeling of self protection, it gives me a entitlement of self gratification. Accomplishing level one of krav gave me a feeling of self worth. Giving me the tenacity that I am capable of reaching new levels in many other aspects of my daily life. Krav not only makes me feel good by letting out my frustrations of the week, it also gives me a new perspective of how I look at the world. Krav let's me not be intimidated by bigger guys and gives me the courage to stand up for myself like I'm supposed to do, regardless of the circumstances. "Ever since I started training krav maga under Randall and assisted by Glenda I've become more confident in all kinds of everyday situations. Not only is the krav maga class a great workout, you learn to be disciplined mentally, physically, and emotionally. I can honestly say that I feel on top of the world after every krav maga class and now since I passed my level 1 skills test, I'm looking even more towards learning new techniques and honing my skills to the best of my ability and beyond. Randall is a great instructor and is knowledgeable in many mixed martial arts disciplines and he will repeat skills over and over until you've mastered them. Men and women of a wide range of age groups can learn a great deal by joining our krav maga classes for self defense, conditioning, and fighting techniques that will literally train you to 'work hard, have fun, and get home safe!'"

"Before joining Krav Maga, I tested other martial arts such as Jui Jitsu, Kickboxing, MMA, Muay Thai and boxing. Although they were great in each aspect, I felt as if they were TOO concentrated and focused more on 'competition rules' and guidelines to prevent disqualification instead defending your life against people of all sizes. The moment I sat in on a class, I knew I found the martial arts that I've been looking for. Randall and Glenda break down the material to accommodate both visual and verbal learners. I started Krav in Jan of 2012 and since then I have looked forward to every day of class. The class sizes are perfect. There was never a question or concern that didn't get addressed within seconds of me asking. If you are looking to do martial arts so you can gain some cool points on facebook, pay the extra ten bucks a month at your local gym for the kickboxing classes. If you want to learn how to defend yourself in the real world, feel more confident and sharpen your senses, join us! "I've been a part of Krav Maga Worldwide with Randall and Glenda since Aug, 2011. Since then, not only have I gained strength and confidence, I've also lost weight! I strongly believe that every woman should know some defensive techniques, just in case.... Unfortunately, we do live in a crazy world and therefore, it is so important to feel safe by knowing that you can defend yourself. Randall has an incredible background in martial arts and with his guidance and instruction I have that sense of security. Randall demonstrates any defense or combative move in an easy fashion - anybody can do it! With practice we polish our technique and gain speed. So I can definitely refer to this class as a "two-in-one": awesome workout plus self defense! I wouldn't trade that. So no more regular gym membership for me, that's for sure!

Love you guys and thank you so much !!! "

"Krav Maga was something I read about a couple years ago and although interested, I was never able to find a location near me that offered classes on a regular basis. At the beginning of 2011, I discovered Krav Maga Worldwide Official Training Center in Pompano Beach and was thrilled to have found a school specialized in training Krav Maga, not just a one day seminar on the technique. After speaking to Glenda it seemed this was exactly what I was looking for and she invited me to watch a class to see if I was interested. I will never forget the first class I watched.

I was amazed at the skill displayed by the participants in class that night. They were punching and blocking, they were doing ground defenses, they all looked very accomplished and knowledgeable, I was impressed and admittedly, a bit intimidated. I was nervous about being able to keep up or be tough enough or be coordinated enough because they all seemed to know exactly what they were doing and I assumed they had been training for a long time. After class, I asked one of the participants how long he had been coming and nearly fell out my chair when he said, "I think this is my third class."

That was all I needed to hear to sign up immediately! I initially committed to one class per week and for the past six months I have trained with Randall. I am very impressed with his knowledge, instruction and guidance during class. He is very clear in his demonstrations, breaking each defense technique down to it's individual components, which are learned and practiced individually, then ultimately combined into a comprehensive self defense move. He encourages questions and constantly observes his students for correctness, adjusting and guiding to ensure the defenses are being executed properly. He is serious yet approachable and it is obvious the great atmosphere at Krav Maga Worldwide Official Training Center is the result of his and Glenda's friendly attitudes and approach to their training and their care for their students.

I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to class each week. I feel more confident about myself and my ability to protect myself and react in an appropriate way to a threat which I feel is extremely important for men and women alike. Truly, the absolute best I feel both physically and mentally all week are the moments after attending class!

"Even after being in law enforcement for many years, I felt lacking in my hand to hand, self defense skills. When I started my search online, I was looking for something that would work on the street, where there are no rules. I didn't want to be involved with a rigid discipline, with a lot of "dancing" around. When I came upon Krav Maga, I decided this was the way to go. This was also confirmed by a friend who is involved in very high profile bodyguard work. I just so happened to run into a fellow officer that had a copy of the book, "Complete Krav Maga", on his front seat. He introduced me to Randall and Glenda and their Pompano Beach Krav Maga Official Training Center. I signed up at the end of May 2010 and in about 10 months with a whole lot of practice, hard work and Randall's great instruction, I completed my level 3 (green belt) test and am working on the level 4 (blue belt) curriculum. Now that I'm over the level 3 hump, my friend suggested that I should get involved in the Krav Maga Instructor Program. With all of Randall's qualifications in place, he is currently helping me through the Krav Maga Instructor Apprentice Program.

I have found both Randall and Glenda to be extremely professional and trustworthy. Randall's style of teaching is very conducive to learning. He is very humble and patient. He can help you clean up your moves without making you feel stupid or incapable. I still find it amazing that he is able to watch me do a technique a few times and can analyze just what I'm doing wrong or how I can do it better.

Since Krav Maga is a mixture of the best parts of numerous disciplines, it is only fitting that Randall is so very capable in several of them (Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, American Kenpo). This, along with having over 10 years of training in Krav Maga, has given him the ability to not just teach the best of the Krav Maga curriculum but to build upon it, in order to provide a complete fighting system. It has been a true pleasure learning from Randall, but most of all I believe he is providing me with training that I can trust my life to."

"The most important factors on why I like learning Krav Maga are both Glenda and Randal. Their professionalism and dedication is obvious to everyone, yet they are very friendly and approachable. Whenever I had doubts or questions, they’ve never failed to respond in and help. The studio has all the adequate space and equipment, and everyday there’s something new to learn; even if you already know the moves, they’ll make sure you work your technique until you get it right. If one is looking for a place where to improve their physical condition, learn to effectively defend yourself and do something different, Krav Maga Worldwide Pompano Beach is the place you’re looking for."

"I have been training with Randall for three months and already feel like I have acquired more self-defense know-how than I did after years training in any other martial arts school. The instruction is top notch and the self-defense moves are efficient, practical, and highly effective; a perfect combination. Randall is very patient with his students and is very effective at pointing out a student's weakness and administering a corrective drill to fix it.

"Having never taken Martial Arts, I wanted a system that is effective and practical so I chose Krav Maga. Also I didn't want to take classes at a "cookie cutter" school which unfortunately are abundant in South Florida, so I chose Krav Maga Worldwide under Randall Koch and Glenda Peel. Krav Maga is what is taught here without any fluff, it is direct and to the point. Every technique is broken down, you practice it slowly then speed it up. Randall and Glenda are great! They have been doing this for a long time and it shows, they really care. If you ever have any questions they are happy to take the time to make sure you understand.

Not only is it a great fighting system it is a great work out. After the first class I felt more confident in myself, this is definitely the way to go if you are looking for a way to protect yourself and your family."

"I started Krav Maga Worldwide in February 2011 with not really knowing what to expect. I was nervous and being a new student, I wasn't sure that I would be able to keep up with the other students. But this was quickly diffused after the first class. Randall is a great instructor and will break down the techniques so that it can be easily learned. Even his personality was great; serious with the class but pull him aside and carrying on a conversation shows that he is a down-to-earth kind of guy. This isn't just some fitness class. This is truly a place to come and learn self-defense skills that you can use to protect yourself and your family members."

"As a former state champion high school and Division I wrestler, I wanted to find a competitive sport after college and Mixed Martial Arts was the logical choice. I won my first MMA fight just using my wrestling background and fell in love with the sport. However, I realized I needed to learn more to improve for future fights and tougher competition. When I lived in Oregon, I found Koch Martial Arts and started taking Brazilian Jiu-jitsu classes under Randall and then added his stand-up training. I've learned under many coaches but Randall's attention to detail and teaching structure is one of the best! He has helped me to a 5-2 MMA record and dozens of victories in BJJ and Submission Grappling tournaments. I now do MMA training at American Top Team in Coconut Creek but continue to learn Krav Maga under Randall. There are so many things I learn in Krav Maga that are not taught in MMA."

"Krav Maga!

I have been involved in the world of martial arts from the young age of 4, I must say that these classes of Krav Maga are very educational and are very informative, Coach Randel is one of the most dedicated instructors I have met in a long time, his way of teaching is very unique as he implements real life situations, I highly recommend to join in the classes. On September 15 I attended a Gun control seminar, it was fantastic as you learn life situations and problem solving tactics, I strongly recommend it.

The team of Randel and Glenda are the success of this school they are willing and able to work with you as much as needed to improve your technics as well as your understanding of the Krav Maga fondamentals.

You are great."

"I used to be in the Mexican army and have done some boxing...so I wanted to learn something practical like I have learned before. I watched a class and liked how Randall taught it so I decided to join. Since then I've learned a lot of good techniques, especially a lot of groundfighting which I really enjoy because it's not something I knew a lot about until I started training here. I've also used the punching defenses I've learned in class to avoid getting injured during a confrontation I had at a bar recently. It's nice to know the techniques I learned in class actually worked in a real situation. I've also lost over 20 lbs. and I'm in much better shape since starting."

"The best instruction I've ever experienced, in anything; I had the good fortune to be a martial arts student under Mr. Randall Koch for eight years, during most of my 60s. He has an incredibly strong skill set not only as a martial artist but more importantly, from my perspective, as a teacher. He has an uncanny ability to hone in on a student's problem, if asked, and to then devise a perfectly tailored corrective drill, explanation or change in technique. Also, I never saw him lose his patience with myself or any of my fellow students, which must have required the patience of Job at times. He is not only advanced in Krav Mage but in Taekwondo and in a number of other martial arts disciplines. If you are fortunate enough to become one of his students, you will agree with this assessment. I am confident that every single one of my former fellow students would echo it."

"At an undisclosed location, I was at a birthday party a which point a fight broke out behind me. At the time I had no knowledge of the brawl going on behind me until I got pushed from behind and fell to the ground. As I hit the ground face first, I immediately rolled to my back and got into a defensive position which I learned from Randall in my Krav Maga class. As my onknown attacker advanced to strike me I rolled onto my side still in a defensive position and kicked my attacker on the lower part of his leg with my bottom leg and immediately stood up ready to attack.

I have been doing Krav Maga for approximately four months and through multiple repetitions which Randall has us doing in class, it was like second nature to me when I fell on the ground to get into a defensive position and fight my way up."

"My name is Denise Runions, Randall Koch was my martial arts instructor for ten years. I'm a 2nd Degree blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do, a greenbelt in Krav Maga and I was just really getting into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu when Randall moved. Before I trained with Randall I had tried four other martial arts instructors, never staying with one for very long because of poor instruction. I was so impressed with Randall that I was his student for ten years and still would be if he hadn't moved away from the area. Randall was always extremely patient, yet expected 100%. He's able to integrate people's different learning styles and abilities very well. I would recommend his Krav Maga to anybody, but especially the ladies. It's the best self defense system I've been exposed to. It's made me a lot more aware of my surroundings and more confident."

Bas Rutten

"If you've ever seen my fights or trained with me in mixed martial arts, you know that I only teach techniques that work in the ring. The same is true for the street - I believe in only doing things that work.

Krav Maga works. I know it does, because the very day I met one of Krav Maga Worldwide's instructors, Amir Perets, he loaded a pellet gun and told me to put the gun to his chest. He said, 'If you see me move, you pull the trigger.' The next thing I knew, he had the gun in his hand - and repeated it six more times. It was incredible to observe, and it was simple to do.

The system is simple and easy to learn. You don't have to be a mixed martial arts champion to perform its techniques. But what I like most about Krav Maga is that it has all the answers."

"I just wanted to let you know that while I’m on vacation in Florida, I had the pleasure of visiting a fellow Krav Maga World Wide Training Center operated by Randall Koch and Glenda Peel. Originally from Oregon, they recently relocated to South Florida and have only been in business a short time.

Both Randall and Glenda were very gracious host to me and invited me to join them for (2) LV-1 classes at no cost. I received excellent instruction. Randle did in fact include me as his student, he watched and evaluated my performance and made specific critiques with attention to detail. I appreciated this very much."

Support our Police
This is the story of a Denver Police Department officer. On his own initiative, he appeared at one of Krav Maga Worldwide's Law Enforcement Training courses in Denver to give a testimonial to the officers who were training. What follows is his story, told in his own words:

"In the spring of 2005, I was doing traffic enforcement and pulled over a drunk driver. The guy was totally uncooperative and drunk, cussing, saying he's not going to get out of the car. I opened the driver door and used a twist lock to get the suspect out of the car. As he exited the car, I felt the suspect spin on me and saw him making a punching movement towards my head. I had just gone through a Krav Maga edged-weapon instructor course so I blocked what I thought was a punch and used an elbow strike to his head as a counterattack. I heard something metal hit the ground and saw a large folding knife lying next to us. I immediately followed up with knee strikes and the suspect collapsed to the ground. When I took the suspect to jail to book him, we noticed that he had large scars and cut marks across his chest in the shape of X's. I asked him where he got those scars and the suspect said that he had been in a lot of knife fights. When we ran his rap sheet, we found he had been arrested 17 times and most of them for ADW ("assault with a deadly weapon") with a knife. This guy was a knife fighter.

I have a background in Thai boxing, jeet kune do, and mixed martial arts. Although I liked Krav Maga, I thought I would use something else in the field. But Krav Maga came out of me so naturally that I didn't even think about what I was doing and I never saw the knife, only the punch. I am totally sold on KM and you should take the training seriously.
