JJ and I have spoke to most of our students directly since the Coronavirus situation has started. We are a small, tight knit training center so it has been easy to stay in direct contact with most of our students.
However, I still want to give you all an update on how we’re dealing with the Coronavirus situation to make sure we are all the same page and to avoid any confusion or misunderstandings.
Our training center is open with our regularly scheduled lessons. We will continue to stay open unless ordered to close.
I have made the decision to stay open for the following reasons:
⦁ Unlike most gyms, we keep our student count to less than 10 people which meets most recommended guidelines. Our average group class is about 4 students. That number is even less since the Coronavirus outbreak.
⦁ Due to poor hygience habits and being constantly around each other, kids are the biggest source of catching a virus. With that in mind, we do not teach children under 12 years old. Almost all our students are adults except for 6 of them. And those 6 students who are under 18 , none of them train in any of our public small group classes. They either take private lessons or semi-private lessons with their family or another friend.
⦁ More than 90% of our students are adults. And as adults they can make the best decision for themselves and their family whether it is in their best interest to continue training or not.
⦁ None of our students are under contract. Every student membership is month-to-month. So students have the option to freeze their program until they’re ready to return. No one is required to continue their membership just because I decided to keep the training center open.
⦁ Well before the Coronavirus outbreak, we cleaned and disinfected our training center 7 days a week. And we will continue to do so.
I have some thoughts in regards to training:
⦁ If you feel comfortable to continue training with others, we will maintain the same class schedule. A class will only be canceled if we don’t have the minimum 2 students.
⦁ If you feel more comfortable with the 6 foot distance rule, we can easily have 3 students training at the same time on the heavy bags and maintain this distance. We can do this for our smaller group lessons by request. Or you can train with classmates on your own without an instructor by scheduling open gym times at www.KravMagaCalendar.com.
⦁ If you don’t feel comfortable training with others, consider taking private lessons. All my current private lesson students are still training with me as of this date. And it’s easy for myself and the student to stay 6 feet away from each other during the lesson if requested. You can schedule a private lesson at www.KravMagaCalendar.com or by contacting me.
⦁ If you don’t feel comfortable training with anyone, take advantage of the open gym times and workout at our training center on your own. We have time slots between 6am to 10pm, 7 days a week. Check for available time slots at www.KravMagaCalendar.com. If you have trouble navigating the calendar please contact me so I can assist you. Maintain your fitness level and Krav Maga skills with open gym times. As always, please clean all the equipment you use (cleaning supplies are in the closet) after you finish your workout.
⦁ Watch the instructional videos posted on our YouTube channel at www.YouTube.com/KravMagaOnline. Many martial arts schools are now offering their students live classes online to try and maintain their memberships and keep their business afloat. I’m not even going to bother with this because all our students already have access to hundreds of hours of instructional videos for free on our YouTube channel. Our Student Section playlist currently has 171 different instructional videos, including every single technique listed in the Level 1 curriculum. And JJ and I will continue to add one or two new videos each week.
⦁ In our Facebook student only group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1967013023593395, I will start uploading videos on training tips and suggestions when working out alone either at home or at our training center during open gym times. These videos should be helpful to keep you staying sharp if you are unable or unwilling to train with partners. And before you complain to me that this unfair because you are not on Facebook: It takes 5 minutes to create a Facebook account and just use it exclusively for our student group. I know we already have some students who have done this.
Finally, just stay in contact with us if you have any needs or concerns. JJ and I are both easy to get a hold of via phone call, text, email, Facebook/Instagram message, or posting in our Facebook student group. Don’t be shy and just contact us if you need anything at all. We are here for you!
Thank you everyone for your support!
